Loving a dog more than most people is often seen as unusual, but for many pet owners, it feels completely natural. Dogs offer loyalty without conditions, judgment, or complications, which makes their love feel safe and genuine.

Being “weird” in this way becomes something to embrace. It reflects honesty about where comfort and emotional security are found. In the end, it doesn’t matter what others think what matters is the bond that feels real.

“Not all barking should be stopped.”

I know that might sound controversial coming from a dog trainer…

But hear me out.
Barking is communication.
And Schnauzers were literally bred to notice things and SOUND THE ALARM.

So expecting a completely silent Schnauzer?
Honestly… it’s unrealistic and unfair.

The goal should not necessarily be:

❌ “Never bark.”
The goal should be:

✔️ Less excessive barking
✔️ Faster recovery
✔️ Better emotional regulation
✔️ More appropriate responses
✔️ A dog who feels calmer overall

Because barking itself is not automatically the problem.
Sometimes barking tells us:

➡️ “I’m overwhelmed.”
➡️ “I’m anxious.”
➡️ “I’m frustrated.”
➡️ “I heard something.”
➡️ “I need support.”
➡️ “I don’t feel safe.”

And if we focus ONLY on suppressing noise…without understanding the emotion underneath it……we can miss the bigger picture completely.

I don’t want owners to feel ashamed that their Schnauzer barks.
I want them to understand WHY.

Because once you understand the Schnauzer brain, behaviour starts making far more sense.

Ever ask your puppy to “SIT”… and get the look 👀 like, “Umm… what does that mean again?”

That’s because puppies don’t generalize well! To your pup, “SIT” in the living room may feel completely different than “SIT” in the backyard, kitchen, or on a busy walk. 🐶

Here’s the secret:
Practice cues in LOTS of different places! Start in a quiet room with few distractions, then slowly move to new locations as your puppy succeeds. 🌟

🏡 Living room
🍳 Kitchen
🌳 Backyard
🚶 Neighborhood walks

If your puppy gets distracted in a new environment, that’s okay! Go back a step, use a food lure if needed, and keep sessions short and positive. Aim for 2–3 great repetitions, then celebrate and move on! 🎉

Remember: your puppy isn’t being stubborn — they’re learning that “SIT” means “SIT” everywhere, every time, no matter what’s happening around them. That takes practice, patience, and consistency. 💛
