Anyone interested in helping with the couch crashers program?
This is what over-capacity looks like. The dogs staying in these crates are not here because they did anything wrong. They are here because we simply ran out of space, and we are asking for your help.
Both our Mōʻiliʻili Campus and our Kosasa Family Campus at Hoʻopili are full. We have dogs in crates lining our hallways, more waiting in our lobby, and dozens more owner surrenders scheduled to arrive this week alone. We are doing everything we can, and right now, the most powerful thing the community can do is show up for them.
If you can foster, even for a week or two, our Couch Crashers program makes it simple. Visit either campus (open daily from 11 am to 6 pm, no appointment necessary), get matched to an adult dog that suits your household and family, and bring them home for a short-term stay. We'll provide all the supplies you need to care for your pup, and when their stay is pau, you'll be asked to fill out a virtual report card for them so that we can find the right family for them later down the line. It's a win-win!
If you are thinking about adoption, now is a great time to act. Through the BISSELL Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters event, adoption fees are 50% off for all adult dogs and cats 7 months and older, and all small animals.
If you have found a pet, please file a Found Pet Report at HawaiianHumane.org/lost-and-found. If you are able to care for them temporarily, our Lost and Found team will work with you to reunite them with their family.
If you are considering surrendering a pet, we understand that circumstances change and that this is never an easy decision. Before coming to us, please explore the rehoming resources at HawaiianHumane.org/rehome, including Home to Home. These tools exist to help families find solutions, and using them helps us reserve space for animals with nowhere else to go.
Even liking and sharing this post makes a big impact in helping to raise awareness. Mahalo for your kōkua!
