Always remember to make sure your pups have enough water and shade if you have them outside no matter how long.
Do not chain your dogs! Texas law states that an owner may not leave a dog outside and unattended by use of a restraint that unreasonably limits the dog’s movement. Dogs cannot be outside in extreme weather! This means that dogs should not be restrained outside if temperatures are below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, and a heat advisory or a natural disaster warning has been issued (Houston hit its first 100 degree day this year, and had a heat advisory in effect just this week). In order to not limit the dog’s movement, the leash must be 5 times the length of the dog or 10 feet and not cause injury to the dog. The dog also cannot be in an unsafe condition, meaning that the dog must have food, water and shelter! If a complaint is filed, you will be investigated and can be charged with animal cruelty which may lead to a misdemeanor or a felony! As a reminder, you can report animal cruelty to the Harris County Animal Cruelty Taskforce at 832-927-PAWS (7297) or online at www.927paws.org. !
