Charlie came to us after he started vomiting and became very lethargic. After evaluation, he was found to have a septic abdomen, which means infection had spread into the abdominal cavity.

During surgery, a perforation was found in the intestines and repaired. A gastrotomy was also performed to remove material from the stomach.

This picture was taken just one day after surgery, with Charlie already eating, which is always a good sign during recovery. He still needed close monitoring and continued care, but seeing a patient want to eat after a major abdominal surgery is something we are always happy to see.

Cases like Charlie’s are a reminder that vomiting and lethargy can sometimes be signs of something much more serious. Early evaluation can make a major difference.

Lily came to us sick with parvo and needed supportive care to help her through it. We’re happy to share that she is now home and fully recovered. Her owner sent us this picture of Lily doing great after treatment, and we love seeing her back to herself.

Parvo is a serious and highly contagious virus, especially in puppies and unvaccinated dogs. Common signs include vomiting, diarrhea, not eating, lethargy, and dehydration. If your puppy is showing these symptoms, don’t wait.

Vaccination and quick treatment are the best protection.

This little guy came to see us for vomiting and diarrhea, and given his symptoms we were very concerned about parvovirus.

Thankfully, parvo testing came back negative. After further testing, he was diagnosed with coccidia, an intestinal parasite commonly seen in young puppies that can cause significant gastrointestinal upset.

He was started on treatment and sent home with medications and supportive care instructions to help get him feeling better soon.

Not every case of vomiting and diarrhea in puppies is parvo, but it is always important to have them evaluated quickly since symptoms can progress rapidly in young pets.

Moku, a 2-year-old Maine C**n, was referred to us for emergency foreign body surgery after swallowing a rubber stopper.

Thankfully, once we were in surgery and able to evaluate the intestines, we were able to carefully manipulate the foreign material into the colon where it could be passed naturally. Because of this, we were able to avoid making an incision into the intestines themselves to remove it.

Foreign body obstructions can quickly become life-threatening, especially in curious pets that like to chew or swallow objects they should not.

We’re very happy Moku is recovering well and avoided a much more invasive procedure.

This litter of Boxer puppies came to see us for diarrhea and upset stomachs. Thankfully, all puppies tested negative for parvovirus.

After examination, f***l testing was performed and dewormer was dispensed to help get these little guys feeling better and back to causing puppy chaos at home.

Young puppies are especially prone to intestinal parasites and gastrointestinal upset, so early evaluation when symptoms start can make a big difference.

We’re happy these pups are on the road to recovery.

Tommy stopped by today to have his sutures removed after undergoing emergency surgery for a diaphragmatic hernia.

When Tommy first arrived, he was in very critical condition. The exact cause of his injury is unknown, though it was most consistent with some type of trauma. After stabilization and surgery to repair the hernia, Tommy has continued to improve and is doing very well.

The X-rays tell the story better than we ever could:
• The first image was taken before surgery and shows Tommy’s intestines and liver displaced into the chest cavity through the diaphragmatic tear, leaving very little room for his lungs to expand normally.
• The second image was taken after surgery. The hernia itself had been successfully repaired, but there was residual air trapped within the chest cavity (pneumothorax), which can happen after these procedures.
• The third image was taken after a thoracocentesis was performed to remove that air, showing a much more normal-appearing chest cavity and lung expansion.

Cases like Tommy’s are a reminder of both how serious trauma can be and how resilient these little guys are.

We’re very happy to see him back for a much happier visit.

We gave the kitten a toy. Naturally, it chose the p*e pad.
