All seven puppies are over 5 lbs as of Week 4, no stragglers here! With formal ENS completed, everyone will be moved out to the big kennels next week to begin socialization and have more space to roam and play. Only the Teal and Red collared black males remain. Everyone is doing so well and Apa is taking such good care of them! Weights are up every day so far, and Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) is going great.

The yellow male, black female, and two of the black males are spoken for. Also, due to a few folks deferring, plus a few more than expected, a few black males are still available. Get ready for the best hunting buddies in the game to hit those birds hard!

They're here! INT FTCH Wilson x Apa MHU puppies have arrived, and with five black males, one yellow male, and only one black female, we nearly ran out of collars for the boys!

Wilson is a powerful yet biddable 77 lb male from Ireland. He has competed across the UK, earning Field Trial Champion status in both Ireland and England. He has represented the Republic of Ireland at historic venues across the UK, and was awarded Dog of Merit at the 2022 Irish Retriever Championship. Most importantly, he brings the biddability of a UK field-bred Labrador without sacrificing drive.

Apa is a 58 lb pocket rocket who has completed her upland Master Hunter title (with two passes earned prior to turning 2 y/o). An expert marker who also handles well in thick cover, she has passed tests in terrain from grasslands to ravines as far from Texas as Nebraska. In the upland, she flushes hard and quarters expertly at speed, but she also hunts the gulf coast for ducks all season -- there are very few species she hasn't picked up!

Puppies are clear of all hereditary conditions by parentage, but each will undergo an Embark genetic test and come with a lifetime genetic guarantee, as well as a 26-month hip/elbow guarantee.

With more males than expected, a few black males will be available. Puppies are in Houston and ready to go home at the end of May. Contact us for details!

Introducing: TMH Apate’s Perseverance JH MHU, completing her 5th pass and adding her first master level title to her name, just in time for puppies! Pretty sure she worked harder because of her new blacked out penthouse… we were down to the wire but she performed!

Cannot wait for this INT FTCH Wilson x Apa MHU litter to hit the ground in early April!

‼️New Title Alert‼️

Hank has added some new letters to the end of his name! Previously carrying JHR (Junior Hunter but in retriever tests), we spent the last month prepping for his final senior tests back in his preferred flushing domain.

Both days went smoothly but on the second day, Hank turned on the fire. He rooted a particularly feisty pheasant out of the thick grass, nipping tail feathers twice. As the bird finally got separation and flew, Hank sat down hard as I whistled, watching the bird while steady as a rock. One superb shot from the right gunner knocked her down and I sent him.

So here he is, Waterybutts Hank SH JHR. Well done and on to Master!

I took Tank and his owner on their first duck hunt today after completing his Junior training this past spring - as well as his pre-season tune-up last month. Tank was rock solid steady on each shot (we dropped the leash after he didn't move a muscle on the first bird) and he returned everything nicely to hand.

In figuring out how to mark the rice rockets, it took him a few tries to realize that not every bird we shot was going to be lying in the decoys (perhaps we should do Senior training Rick Rivas? 😉), but he made up for it with some long, powerful retrieves, and he also had his first experience retrieving a crippled bird! In ankle-deep water, there was nowhere for it to go, and he punched in to snag the struggling teal. Took us lousy shooters a few hours to scratch out five birds, but Tank did very well for his first time in the blind with no birds lost, and I look forward to seeing what adventures these two cook up.

Oh, and for those wondering, the spirit of Texas Teal is alive and well as we actively donated blood (mosquitoes) while getting nicely broiled (¿September? in Texas). Bring on the cold please!
