💥𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁?
Here's some quick tips for you and your dog to have a calm and safe 4th of July.
🎆𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗺𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝙁𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝘾𝙖𝙡𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙩𝙮 𝙍𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 - 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗘𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗦 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝙘𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝙘𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜'𝗹𝗹 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸!
𝟭. 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝘁’s 𝘁𝗮𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗶𝘀 𝘂𝗽-𝘁𝗼-𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲.
2. 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀 so you are aware of when they are going to start around you.
3. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Some pets find classical music soothing, while others enjoy TV.
𝟰. 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: A tired dog is a less stressed dog: Take your dog out for walks, exercise, or a game of fetch during the day and shortly before the fireworks begin will help them be tired.
𝟱. 𝗡𝗼𝗻-𝗗𝗿𝘂𝗴 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Some of these include pressure shirts or a pheromone collar. Plus, several herbal calming remedies are available – but be careful – not all of them pass my guidelines! (Hint: CBD oil is not a recommendation!!)
𝟲. 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀/𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀: Although they may look cute, please resist the urge to put a glow stick around your pet’s neck or on them anywhere. They are not designed for pet use, and if eaten the liquid they contain can be quite irritating.
𝟳. 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆: You don’t want to catch your pup's fur on fire!
𝟴. 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆: Make sure doors and gates are locked and secure. Bring pets inside.
𝟵. 𝗛𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴: Sometimes dogs will just want to go and hide. This is a perfectly good option for them. They may end up in a dark closet or laundry room. So long as they’re not chewing up things – it is ok to let them be for a little while.
𝟭0. 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗩𝗲𝘁: If your pet is prone to anxiety and it is severe... Sometimes, no matter what you do to keep your dog (or cat) calm, they’ll still feel stressed. They will probably suggest medication – and if your pet’s anxiety is out of control this may be the only solution. However, I have found that natural and herbal solutions are best and healthier for the dog.
If you have a dog or cat that gets easily stressed during the 4th of July, don’t worry. With a little planning, you and your furry friends can have a fun-filled holiday sans stress.
