⚠️ TEXAS PET OWNERS ⚠️
The Texas Veterinary Medical Association is urging pet owners to stay informed about the growing concern surrounding New World Screwworms (NWS), which are moving north through Mexico toward the Texas border.
These flies can lay eggs in open wounds or even small breaks in the skin, leading to severe infections, tissue damage, and potentially life-threatening complications if left untreated. Pets, livestock, wildlife, and even humans can be affected.

🐾 What to watch for:
• Swelling or unusual discharge from wounds
• Foul odor from an injury
• Excessive licking or chewing at a wound
• Pain, lethargy, or decreased appetite

If you notice anything unusual, contact your primary veterinarian immediately. Early detection and treatment are critical. 🩺

The best prevention is simple:
✔️ Check your pets regularly for wounds
✔️ Keep wounds clean and monitored
✔️ Seek veterinary care promptly if concerns arise

Please help spread awareness by sharing this information with fellow pet owners. 🐶🐱

This Memorial Day, our team at Gulf Coast Animal Eye Clinic will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026, as we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. We are deeply grateful for their courage, service, and sacrifice. 🇺🇸
As a reminder to our clients, both clinic locations will remain open through Friday this week. If your pet needs medication refills, please call ahead before arriving so our team has enough time to prepare prescriptions or call them into your preferred pharmacy.
