So I have a life update😳

Atalie Rescue Rehab is relocating to Sonoma County CA in October.

Although this post was incredibly difficult to write, because I am going to miss all my people and dogs here deeply; I am excited for this next chapter of my life where I am surrounded by the redwoods and working at Humane Society Sonoma County on their behavior team.

I will still be seeing clients virtually (and in person if you're in Cali🤙)

3 years ago today Harvey crossed the rainbow bridge and man... You think it is going to be easier with time but it sure doesn't feel like it today.

No one is ever going to look at me the way you did, Harvey. You were my peace without ever knowing it. Or maybe you did. All through college, my 20s, and going into my 30s - you were the throughline to my stability. All my other animals needed me, but I needed you.

I am grateful for every day we spent together
And a part of me will mourn every day we are apart.

And one day, I will follow you into the dark🖤
Keep the bed warm for me.

GET THE BUG!

This is a game me and Kenna play to give her a breed specific outlet to get her hunting and barking needs met.

Some dogs...they just wanna bark!

And honestly it is WEIRD that we insist they don't.

So to meet her needs, and my needs, we try to find outlets for that big dog in her.

So this is how we play the GET THE BUG game;

Cue: TOUCH (or whatever your dog prefers) this helps the dog feel they are in control of initiating the appearance of the bug
Marker: Get The Bug!
Laser run for 10-20s
*Toss a treat while chasing
*lead laser to treat
*when she eats it - laser goes off*
Restart💫

END CUE - this is very important!: say "All Done!" And put everything away.

This will help your dog understand both a start and a stop cue for this game.

Super fun. Super easy. Great to do when you're tired and need to burn some of your dog's energy ⚡️

So proud of his lil handsome Buckeroo!

He is very reactive to people outside his trusted circle and we have been working to open up his heart to new friends 🥰

The first few times he did the target stick with me he lunged and barked at me (he's a sensitive boi) and this past consult he was able to do several in a row! He is still working on getting there - but I'll take his lil agonistic pucker over a lunge and bark anyday!

Our goal is shaping closer to a normal touch with less arousal and teefs🤣🤣 Especially when working with dogs who are sensitive (me just typing used to set off this golden goober) it is important to remember we are looking for PROGRESS not PERFECTION.

And celebrate your wins as they come!
Great job Brandi Hartsell for not only NOT giving up on Buckeroo (as many many people would have and probably have since he was from a shelter) but also loving him for who he is NOW while training and working with for the future you two will have together.
