I’m sharing these photos of my set up and a little bit of information to help any aspiring dog breeders.
First things first, no kennel program is perfect;
Just keep working towards your goals and continue improving as you go.
I started raising and breeding dogs a little over 10 years ago in a subdivision with little space for my dogs. A major goal of mine was to provide my dogs with a quality kennel that gave them space and comfort. A few years ago I achieved that goal and I continue to make improvements as needed.
In the photos you’ll see the 16x8 kennel I built.
The kennel includes:
1. An insulated roof to keep heat out
2. Air conditioning to keep the kennel cold and dogs comfortable
3. 5 kennel bays both inside and outside
4. A 6ft covered porch for shade and fresh air when they want it
5. Dog doors for inside/outside access as they please
6. Concrete steps to help climb up to and down from the porch (This is an area I plan to improve by building wooden stairs across the entire porch).
7. Shelves to store kennel supplies.
8. Water at the kennel
9. Electric at the kennel
10. Lighting in the kennel
11. A shaded/covered area with fresh water
12. Space to roam
When whelping and raising a litter of pups I keep them in my garage. The garage set up includes:
1. An insulated garage and garage doors
2. Air conditioning to keep the dogs comfortable
3. An 8x8 pen with horse stall mats for the puppies to live in until they are old enough to be outside
4. A table to hold food and supplies
Hope this information helps. Feel free to ask questions.
God bless.
