Bridging Boundaries

Alexandra was just six years old when she first visited the Hopi Tribe reservation in remote northeastern Arizona with her two moms. After seeing dozens of homeless and starving dogs, she connected with Maxine, a tribe member asking for help. Alex vowed to return to her Chicago suburban community and start raising money to help. It took Alex over four years to raise and save $1000. In 2015, when Alex was ten years old, Hopi Dog Rescue held its first low cost spay and neuter clinic in conjunction with Soul Dog Rescue from Colorado and volunteers from Best Friends Animal Society in Utah. Since that time over 500 dogs and cats have been sterilized and hundreds have been rescued and placed in new and loving homes. Together, Alexandra and Maxine have bridged boundaries of age, community and culture to make a a positive impact in the world.
