At Native Scales Sanctuary, our mission is simple:
To rescue, rehabilitate, educate, and advocate for reptiles in need while promoting compassionate, responsible ownership.
Every reptile that comes through our doors has a story. Some have been neglected, abandoned, surrendered, or simply misunderstood. We believe every scaled life deserves patience, proper care, and the opportunity to thrive.
Our goal is not only to provide medical care, proper husbandry, and safe environments, but also to educate our community about the unique needs of reptiles. Through education, we hope to replace fear with understanding and inspire others to appreciate these incredible animals.
For those who can be rehomed, we work to find knowledgeable, loving families. For those who cannot, Native Scales Sanctuary becomes their forever home, where they will receive lifelong care, comfort, and respect.
Every donation, every share, every volunteer, and every word of encouragement helps us continue this mission. Together, we're proving that reptiles aren't "just pets"—they are living beings worthy of compassion and second chances.

Hermes Update!!

Our permanent resident Hermes has been adjusting well to his bioactive terrarium and has had a successful shed 👏🏻 during previous sheds Mr. Hermes had issues with patchy sheds and retained shed often needing assistance with soaking and gentle assistance with a soft cloth. His trust has grown more as he has started to come to the front of his enclosure during misting and routine checks and has begun to tolerate handling for full body examinations ❤️

Our very own permanent resident Mr. Hermes got a newly upgraded bioactive enclosure and he has been loving it! His bioactive enclosure is full of springtails with isopods on the way, lots of leaves, and lots of moss as Hermes had a few traumatic sheds before coming here that it has damaged some of his scales so he has a rough time shedding.

Don't let the name fool you—Zilla unlike Godzilla isn't very big at all! 💚 This handsome little bearded dragon is currently staying with us while his family is away and is enjoying plenty of basking time and attentive care. He is still growing though, so he will be a Big Man in no time!!

Theodore was wanted by many when he was a permanent resident at the sanctuary and after a long time evaluation and medical care he was placed up for adoption!

It was a long time before someone said yes, which was surprising due to how many wanted him when he was not available and then they were no where to be found when he was adoptable! Crazy right!

But Mr. Theodore found his perfect family where he will be adored and loved by some adorable little girls!

Much love to Theodore and we would love to welcome his new family into the Native Scales family!!

💚 Where Do Donations Go? 💚

Asides from being ridiculed for asking for donations in the first place. Something few people don't understand is everything for the reptiles that isn't covered by donations comes out of my pocket. That being said. Questions I hear most often is, "What do donations actually help pay for?" "Why are donations necessary?"
The answer is simple: every donation goes directly toward the care and wellbeing of the reptiles that come through Native Scales Sanctuary.

Rescue and rehabilitation involve much more than food and water. Many reptiles arrive with inadequate husbandry, medical concerns, nutritional deficiencies, or without proper equipment. Donations help provide:

🐍 Food and feeders • Dubia roaches • Mealworms • Fresh vegetables and greens

☀️ Proper lighting and heating • UVB linear lighting systems • UVB replacement bulbs • Ceramic heat emitters • Heat lamps and fixtures • Thermometers and hygrometers

🏠 Safe housing • Terrariums and enclosures • Hides and enrichment items • Water dishes • Climbing branches and décor

🌿 Habitat supplies • Substrate • Cleaning supplies • Replacement equipment • Quarantine and hospital enclosure materials

To give an idea of the costs: • UVB linear lighting: $85 (Times 5) • Ceramic heat emitter: $43 (Times 5) • Terrarium: $87 to $376 (depending on the needs) • Substrate: $30 (every 3 months) • Monthly feeder insects: $98

Every $1, $5, or $10 donation helps provide the essentials these animals need to heal, thrive, and eventually find loving homes. It is hard to have to ask for donations but this allows us to reach out and help more reptiles in need and not go into debt. Anytime we receive a donation it is greatly appreciated and put to good use.

💚 New Intake: Meet Ruhn 💚

Today was an exciting day but yet bittersweet, Native Scales Sanctuary welcomed a very special guest—Ruhn, a 4-year-old Veiled Chameleon.

Ruhn came into our care following the passing of his owner. While we are saddened by the circumstances that brought him to us and have all the sympathies to his previous family, we are grateful that he was entrusted to people who could help ensure his future remains bright.

The good news? Ruhn appears to be in excellent condition and was clearly loved and cared for throughout his life. He is alert, beautiful, and absolutely stunning to see in person.

After careful consideration, we as a program have made the decision to transfer Ruhn to a chameleon-focused rescue. While we are always willing to help reptiles in need, we believe every animal deserves access to the most specialized care possible. Chameleons have unique husbandry requirements, and placing Ruhn with a rescue that specializes in their care is the best way we can honor his previous owner by making sure that he gets the best care possible he can receive. Though our knowledge is ever growing Chameleons are not a species we have dealt with enough to feel confident in giving him the correct care to the standard at this point.

One of the wonderful things about being in partnership with other reptile sanctuaries we are able to move reptiles who might need more care than we can offer. It is important for us to make sure we can provide reptiles the best care and love they need while still maintaining the correct budget to allow that. We do not see this as a failure on our part we see it as a chance to grow and expand. That being said, we are currently saving to afford a building specifically designed and set up for reptiles. If you would like to donate it would be greatly appreciated. We have cashapp and venmo, and we also accept donations in the form of reptile supplies.

Rescue isn't always about keeping an animal—sometimes it's about making sure they reach the people best equipped to help them thrive.
