So, kitten season never ends in Alabama. And despite being on a strict intake hold, we keep coming across dire situations. These six little beans came to us from Trussville. Their finder was feeding mama and she ended up bringing her babies too. We had it all worked out and she agreed to foster and hep with their vet costs. Since mom wasn’t feeding them anymore we asked her to bring them inside and assumed she did. Unfortunately, she put them on her screened porch where they kept getting out. This ended in tragedy when her dog got ahold of one of the kittens and they didn’t make it. She was beside herself and just wanted to take them to the humane society. We were worried about them making it through the weekend so we found room with a foster by some miracle.

These six kittens are so tiny and have a lot of growing to do. We are hopeful it will be smooth sailing from here. We have six more mouths to feed, six more vet checkups, six more spay/neuters, six more kittens who may need more than just routine care. It all adds up so fast. Mama will be getting spayed so she doesn’t have any more kittens.

Welcome our Twilight crew!

Their mama is a true feral. We accidentally trapped her Sunday and then found her babies. We made the tough choice to release her and monitor her kittens as they grew. We can all agree that staying with mama is the best choice. Mama was going a great job, but unfortunately something changed. Tuesday night we watched through our trail cam and anxiously waited for her to come back to her kittens. She never did. So, the next morning we checked on them in person. They’d lost weight and immediately started screaming when we walked up. They were cold to the touch, but we were hopeful with them screaming mama’s instincts would kick in and she’d come back to them. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and a roaming dog showed up instead. Without her protection and care we knew they wouldn’t make it. So, we pulled them in. They’ve been with team member Natalie since then and will be going to team member Kendall soon. They’re still being bottle fed, but they’re so close to weaning. They’re the cutest, loudest, little boogers. Mama is next on our list to TNVR so she doesn’t have to go through this again.

Please remember if you see kittens and they’re safe, don’t touch them. Monitor and make sure mama is coming back. She is usually close by. It’s rare you actually need to pull the kittens.

I’m happy to announce that Potato, aka Tater, from The Willows project has finally landed the perfect home. He will be a solo cat in a home with two retired people who have a fondness for black and white cats. They’ve been on the hunt for a more middle-aged cat who was happy being the only child. And boy, did the stars align! Happy life sweet Tater! You deserve it ❤️

What a day!

A full month of planning, 15+ hours in the field and tucking cats in for the night, eleven team members/volunteers and a whole lot of kitty magic helped us trap 23 adults yesterday! We also pulled a mama and her three kittens and left another mama with her healthy babies to monitor. This was and is a labor of love. Since the beginning of the year we have pulled 52 kittens into rescue, TNVR’d 43, and kept two adult cats in rescue. That brings us to a total of 97 cats from our Oaks/Kismet Project alone. Stay tuned for more details on these kitties as the week progresses!
