Love this… And I think there’s another side to this, the instructor has to embrace the “learning lesson” just as much as the student. It’s very hard to be okay with making mistakes if your instructor makes you feel bad for making them!
We know with dogs and horses that confidence and learning come from feeling safe enough to try, get it wrong and try again. We should give the humans we’re teaching the same thing...
REMINDER: You don’t have to get it right in a lesson. I know that sounds crazy, so I'll say it again: you do NOT have to get it right in your lesson.
A lesson where you try to do everything perfectly? That's just a horse show. A lesson where you try, struggle, and learn something new? That's where the progress comes from.
So I know it's hard, but I want you to try and let go of The Perfect Lesson and embrace The Learning Lesson.
