🐾 Technology Is Wonderful…But It Can’t Replace a Human🐾

I love technology, and there are some amazing products available that can make caring for our cats easier. Automatic feeders, water fountains, cameras and self-cleaning litter boxes can all be wonderful tools.

But they should be part of the care not the caregiver.

As a professional cat sitter, I’ve seen these devices fail more times than you might think.

💧 Water fountains need regular cleaning and filter changes. Simply topping them off with fresh water isn’t enough. Pumps can stop working, filters get dirty, and fountains can become pretty gunky if they aren't properly maintained.

🍽️ Automatic feeders can jam, lose power or have technical problems. In fact, in August 2026, Ars Technica reported on an outage involving Petlibro smart feeders. Some pet owners reported that scheduled meals didn't dispense, dispensed late, or were missed during the disruption.

That is a perfect example of why I would never want technology to be the only thing responsible for feeding a cat while their family is away.

🚽 Automatic litter boxes can also fill up, malfunction, or simply scare some cats when they suddenly start moving and cleaning themselves. And if no human is there checking the litter box, we may also miss important changes in urination or bowel movements.

That's where a professional cat sitter makes such a difference. 🐱❤️

When we visit your kitty, we're not just filling a bowl and scooping a litter box. We're making sure your cat is actually eating and drinking, that the equipment is functioning, that the litter box looks normal, & most importantly, that your cat looks and acts like themselves.

A camera can show you your cat.

An automatic feeder can dispense dinner.

A fountain can provide fresh water.

A robot can scoop litter.

But none of them can look into your kitty's eyes and say, “Something doesn't seem right today.”

Technology is a wonderful backup. Human eyes, hands, intuition and compassion are irreplaceable. ❤️🐾

It’s a busy Labor Day weekend for Kristen & Eva Maria the Cat Nanny crew is officially on the move! 🚗🐈💨

This morning, Kristen is helping Eva make the rounds taking care of our adorable friends LEO, LUNA & OLIVE. And let me tell you… it sure is nice to have backup!

Between filling food bowls, scooping litter boxes, refreshing water, handing out treats, giving cuddles, and answering to several very demanding feline supervisors, we’ve got our hands full!👑

Thankfully, Kristen and I make a pretty PURRFECT team. We love what we do, and most importantly, we always let our kitty clients set the pace. Some want cuddles, some want playtime…and some simply want us to serve breakfast and leave the premises.

Whatever they choose, we respect their boundaries!

LUVVY is our easygoing girl who is happy to settle right in, while her sister ABBY is a little more shy and cautious. And you know what? That’s perfectly okay!

PREPARED TO CARE — WHEN EVERY SECOND COUNTS!

I am SO proud of my assistant, Kristen Ryan, who is now officially Pet CPR & First Aid Certified! 🎉🐱🐶 I also took the opportunity to complete a refresher course because when animals are in our care, being prepared for an emergency is incredibly important.

As professional cat nannies, our job goes far beyond feeding, fresh water, litter boxes, cuddles and playtime. Our clients trust us with members of their family.

Knowing Pet CPR and First Aid can help us recognize an emergency, respond appropriately, provide immediate care, and potentially make a lifesaving difference until veterinary help is available.

A HUGE shout-out to our friends at Guardian Home Services and the Asheville Area Professional Pet Sitters Association for putting together this valuable training.

And a very special THANK YOU to our wonderful instructor, Emily Ray! She did an amazing job teaching, demonstrating and making sure we felt confident and prepared.

Kristen and I hope we never have to use these skills but if an emergency happens, we want to be ready.

Because caring for your cats isn't simply our job. It's a responsibility we take very seriously.
