Kovacs has come so far from the scared dog he showed up as.

Running around the park with his chest out happy and free.

Throughout the process of getting him to open up and building his confidence, I gradually taught him skills and got real level of control with him.

We go out and have a great time and he knows I have authority and I guide him to make the right choices.

We have real cooperation.

So many only focus on getting control of the dog and it doesn’t matter how the dog feels or what they look like.

The real MAGIC is finding the balance of confidence AND control.

This is the beauty of The Force of Nature Training approach.

Kovacs has been working on some heeling.

This was after a couple sessions.

He’s far from perfect but you can see he understands the basic concept and is trying his best.

We will polish this up nice over the next few days.

I’ll post a progress video soon.

Need help with leash walking?

I teach it in a way that is easy for the dogs to learn and most owners are amazed how quickly it happens.

Your dog IS NOT trained.

Before you grab a pitchfork and come for me, let me explain….

Everyday when I take dogs out in public I see people with their pets and I pay close attention.

Some are off leash running around the park. Some are in the gated dog park with a group. Others are leashed up walking the perimeter.

If you go to the same place you will start to notice the regulars.

Stick around long enough and talk to them and they will give you details.

From a wide view things seem in order and people have control of their pets.

Most would say their dogs are well trained.

But this is where knowledge and experience are important.

You see, we must ask ourselves what does it mean to have a β€œtrained” dog?

For me it comes down to COMMUNICATION and CONTROL.

Let me explain further.

When you tell the dog something, do they clearly understand what you are saying?

(Communication)

And does the dog comply?

(Control)

This may sound simple but what about when we add in challenges?

Other dogs, rabbits, people etc.

Does the dog still listen or do they get selective hearing?

Control is most important when things get tough.

So I ask you…

Is your dog trained?

P.S. In this video I show Kovacs doing some obedience and recalls while running around the park free. This is all verbal commands.

What a difference a week can make.

The first clip is when Kovacs first got here.

He was very nervous and tense.

The rest of the video is from today.

Today I started teaching Kovacs recall and you can see how happy and loose he looks running around.

It’s fun being able to see the dog change in front of your eyes.

His confidence grows everyday and it’s only been a week so far.

It doesn’t matter what I can do with the dog, it matters how successful the dogs are when they get back home with their owners.
