Some people get a German Shepherd because they hear they’re good dogs. That could go a couple different ways.

Some people get a German Shepherd, call a trainer and say: "I love her. I need to know what all this dog can do.”

It’s not every day I get that call, but when I do?

Say less. Game on. 🔥

She wants to know what her dog is made of, and I can’t wait to help her find out.

Welcome to Black Stripe K9, It’s time to go to work. 🖤

To most people, this is a random rock on an ugly dirt edge of my landscaping.

They’re not wrong. 😂

To me? It’s evidence that I got a little too busy and Kate was overdue for some play.

On behalf of us, here's your reminder: play with your dog.

Engagement, obedience, impulse control—some of the best training happens inside the game.

It’s why every toy we sell at Black Stripe K9 is INTERACTIVE.

The toy is just the tool. You’re the fun part.

I get asked often: "When should I start training my puppy?"

My answer: day 1. Trust me, they can learn quicker than you give them credit for.

Guess what else.. you're training them whether you know it or not. 😉 Sometimes you're so slow at it, they begin to train you.

Does that mean I want you to put them through rigorous, extensive exercises at 8 weeks old immediately as they set foot in your home? No.. but you can begin developing a relationship built on teamwork, help build their confidence, and teach the basics.

When you don't teach your puppy rules and boundaries up front, how fair is it to punish them for growing up and their habits having more of an impact only because they've grown in size?

Save yourself preventable trouble.

It's okay to crate your dog.

Every unwanted behavior starts with a rehearsal.

Counter surfing. Jumping on guests. Ignoring you. Chewing while you're gone.

The more they practice it, the better they get at it.

A crate isn't punishment, it's a management tool that prevents bad rehearsals so you can teach productive ones.

If you don't like the performance, stop giving them rehearsals.

If you crate train correctly, it becomes one of their favorite safe places to relax.

Common sense applies.

Quality control is here checking nail trims 🧐

Did you know part of puppy training includes nail trims? Also, socializing with cats. Let's be honest, they're the real bosses around here.

On last week's episode of "I'm going to show up at your house and take your puppy home":

We have: Strong-willed Stewie.

He is a Cane Corso puppy who is showing us what we need to work on very early in his little life. There are some things he wants people to think he is just NOT going to tolerate.

Well little buddy.. some things are just part of life. We're going to guide him through it and help him be his best self.

Thankfully, his mom is a ROCKSTAR Black Stripe alumni and knew what she was getting into with this breed so she started early at home and early with his training.

Most people ignorant to this type of dog may panic and cater to his behavior which would escalate the issues and create a problematic dog later in life that they'd most likely end up rehoming. If you've been around long enough, you've seen it happen.

Why the tag on the collar?

#1. He's gorgeous and another amazing model for the collars we carry.
#1. He despises collars so his session included getting him comfortable with putting on and taking off multiple styles of collars along with leash manners.

He's already doing amazing and leaves his problems in the dust like they were never there.
