Penelope had a few days feeling under the weather. We did diagnostics to determine the problem, which was constipation.

Thankfully she’s back to her normal self, making all of her normal piggy noises 🐷💜.

Did you know?

😴 Some pigs enjoy cuddling and sleeping near their favorite person.

🧼 They are cleaner than their reputation
Despite the stereotype, pigs are naturally clean animals:

✨ They choose specific bathroom areas
✨ They roll in mud to cool off and protect their skin—not because they’re dirty
✨ Many mini pigs hate being wet or messy indoors

Even our pigs outdoors have one dedicated potty area, which makes cleanup easier.

🌡 They are sensitive to temperature
Mini pigs don’t sweat well, so they’re:

✨ Prone to overheating in hot weather
✨ Sensitive to cold due to sparse hair
✨ They may need blankets, sweaters, shade, and cooling mats depending on the season.
✨ Our pigs do great outdoors in the Montana winters with insulated shelters and straw

🧠 Emotional memory is strong
Mini pigs remember:

✨ People who treated them kindly
✨ Places they’ve been before
✨ Negative experiences (they do not forget easily)
✨ This makes positive early socialization extremely important.

What else do you want to learn about Mini pigs?

Nice try mom. How many days has your pig been holding it? Canned pumpkin on the menu this week.

Did you know?

🧠 Miniature pigs are smarter than you think
Mini pigs are extremely intelligent—on par with dogs and even toddlers in some problem-solving tests. They can:

✨ Learn their names
✨ Be litter-box trained
✨ Master tricks like spinning, sitting, and opening doors (sometimes… unfortunately 😅)

🗣 They have a whole language
Mini pigs communicate with over 20 different vocalizations, including grunts, squeals, barks, and even soft “woofs.” Owners often learn what each sound means—like I’m hungry, I’m annoyed, or I love you.

💕 They form deep emotional bonds
Mini pigs are very social and can:

✨ Bond strongly with their humans
✨ Get lonely or depressed if isolated
✨ Show jealousy if another pet gets more attention

Both pigs are excellent with our daughter. Patches can be a bully because he is not neutered but he’s always been great w/ Emma.

All piglets will be spayed or neutered before leaving the farm, unless otherwise arranged. These guys make the best pets once they have been altered.

We brought Penelope home around 8 weeks of age and she lived in the basement for the first couple of months.

These pigs are so smart! She was fully litter box trained within days. They all have so much personality.

Now, our pigs live outdoors but you can have fully grown mini pigs living in the house with you! Some will use doggy doors to go outside, so you don’t have to worry about litter boxes long term 😘

These piggies are SMART 🥰

Penelope walks on a leash and follows me all over the farm.

What “Miniature” Really Means?

There’s no single official breed called “mini pig.” Common types include Juliana, Kunekune, Potbellied, and mixed lines. Patches is registered Juliana, while Penelope is from mixed lines.

Adults typically weigh 60–150 lbs when responsibly bred and properly fed (true adults are rarely under 50 lbs). Miniature pigs grow until about three years of age.

Beware of misleading terms like “micro,” “teacup,” or “forever 25 lbs”—these are marketing phrases, not genetic guarantees.

For size reference- Patches is full grown at about 50 lbs and Penelope is around 30 lbs but still growing. Penelope is pictured below ♥️.

Welcome to The Pig Farm 🐽🐷

We are a small family farm breeding Miniature pigs, specifically Juliana pigs. Our breeding program started nearly three years ago when we obtained our first pig, Patches as a baby. Since that time, we’ve obtained Penelope, to create our first breeding pair!

We are expecting babies this spring 🥰

Please follow along for more information about our pigs and miniature pigs in general, as they make fabulous pets!
