Louie's Loft Pigeon Rescue

We care for all ages and breeds of pigeons including ferals. Louie's Loft also runs a fully equipped pigeon medical center and sanctuary. These birds are family.

We often have pigeons for adoption, please inquire! Louie’s Loft is a small, private pigeon rescue operating with deep compassion and a strong sense of purpose. It’s a continuation of heartwork that began with Wild Wings, now narrowed in focus to allow for deeper, more personal care for each bird. Run out of a cozy, lovingly maintained home and an outdoor loft structure, Louie’s Loft specializes in the rehabilitation, sanctuary, and lifelong care of pigeons—both feral and fancy—who cannot be released or were never wild to begin with. The space is peaceful and safe, designed with the birds’ physical and emotional needs in mind. Inside the home, a select group of special-needs, elderly, or deeply bonded birds (including the Loft’s namesake, Louie) live in comfort and security. Their lives are filled with soft places to perch, sunlight streaming through windows, gentle music, and warm human companionship. Some, like Louie and her mate Kawaii, have their own love stories and routines, each with distinct personalities and histories. Outside, the aviary is a dynamic space for pigeons who are fully flighted and able-bodied but not suited for release. These include surrendered pets, dumped birds, or former racers and breeders who found their way to sanctuary. The loft is filled with perches, nest boxes, sunlight, and enrichment that allows them to express natural behaviors and enjoy community. Unlike large operations, Louie’s Loft isn’t about numbers—it’s about relationships. Every resident is known, cherished, and given a forever home tailored to their needs. Though no longer a public intake facility, the Loft occasionally takes in select cases when space allows and works to educate the public about the value of pigeons as companions, the cruelty of industries that exploit them, and the need for greater respect and compassion toward these misunderstood birds. Louie’s Loft is not a nonprofit or a large rescue—it is intimate, heart-led, and sustainable, supported by a small network of trusted helpers and the unwavering love of the caretaker who made a promise to the birds long ago. Here, they are not just rescued. They are seen. They are loved. They are home.

💙🕊️ **Louie’s Loft Needs a Little Holiday Hope** 🕊️💙

As we head into the holiday season, we want to be honest with our followers about where things stand at Louie’s Loft Pigeon Rescue.

This year has been incredibly difficult for our little rescue. Between numerous sick birds needing veterinary care, ongoing loft repairs, unexpected expenses, and a significant lack of donations, we have found ourselves in a much more difficult financial position than we ever anticipated.

We’ve accumulated **several thousand dollars in veterinary bills and repairs this year, with the majority paid out of pocket.** We will always do everything within our ability to provide the care our birds deserve, but the financial toll has become incredibly heavy.

We are reaching out today to ask: **Would you be willing to help support Louie’s Loft this holiday season?** 💙

Whether it’s a small monetary donation, purchasing something from our wishlist, sharing our posts, or simply spreading the word about our rescue, every little bit makes a difference. We know times are tough for so many people, and we never take anyone’s generosity for granted.

Please be advised that we are operating on an **extremely limited basis through the remainder of 2026** as we work to care for the birds currently in our care and manage our limited resources.

At this time, **we have no available sanctuary space for permanent residents.** Requests for pigeon intake will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, with priority given to birds based on the urgency and severity of their medical condition.

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee intake availability or accept every bird needing assistance. Please include a brief description of the situation, the bird’s current condition, and any immediate medical concerns when reaching out.

💔 **In Memory of Kip** 💔

Today, we said goodbye to one of our most special boys.

**Kip the Jacobin** was just shy of 8 years old, and somehow that still feels far too young. Eight years should have been the beginning of his “elder statesman” era—not the end of his story. 🥺

Kip was one of those pigeons who quietly became part of the fabric of the Loft. He was handsome, ridiculous, lovable, and completely himself. And, of course, he was the very devoted husband of his absolutely enormous wife-bird, **Lahfawnduh**. ❤️

Those two were quite the pair. Kip may have been the smaller half of the relationship, but anyone who knew them knew exactly who was running that household. 😂

Lahfawnduh is going to have to learn how to navigate the Loft without her little husband by her side, and that breaks our hearts. We know she will miss him terribly.

Kip, thank you for nearly 8 years of being you. Thank you for every coo, every feather, every ridiculous Jacobin moment, and every bit of love you brought into this Loft.

You were deeply loved here, and you always will be.

🌿 CORIANDER — Meet the Loft Monday

MEET CORIANDER. 🌿🤎

You might know this handsome boy by another name.

When he was found as a stray, his finder named him Gunnar.

And Gunnar is a perfectly respectable pigeon name...

It just wasn't his name.

So we changed it.

Coriander felt right.

And it didn't take long for this boy to go from stray pigeon to deeply loved Loft resident.

Coriander has one of those stories we really love at Louie's Loft. He came to us because someone found him and cared enough to make sure he was safe.

And then he stole our hearts.

So instead of being a temporary stop on his journey, Louie's Loft became his home.

But there's an especially wonderful part of Coriander's story.

His finder still sponsors him every month. ❤️

That means the person who found this beautiful boy is still helping care for him and remains a part of his story.

We think that's pretty special.

A stray found by a kind person.

A pigeon who stole the hearts of his rescuers.

And now a permanent member of the Louie's Loft family.

🛑 **LOUIE’S LOFT IS CLOSED UNTIL OCTOBER 10TH!** 🛑

Well friends… we are officially hitting the **DO NOT ADD ANOTHER PIGEON TO THIS HOUSE** button. 😂

Louie’s Loft Pigeon Rescue will be **closed to new intakes until October 10th** while I, the owner/director, take a very much needed **5-day trip out of the country** with my husband. ❤️✈️

Before anyone worries — **the animals are absolutely fine!** All of the birds in our care, the loft, and our personal pets will be watched over by an amazing professional pet sitter who is also a **former senior volunteer with Wild Wings**. They are in very capable hands, and I will be leaving knowing everyone is safe, cared for, and loved.

But…

Our house is already VERY full. 😂
The loft is full.
The bird room is full.
My brain is full.
And honestly, my husband would probably like to come home from Mexico and still have a wife. 🤣

So **please do not ask us to take in additional birds before October 10th.** We genuinely cannot safely add to the current population right now.

I also want to ask everyone for a little kindness and understanding while we take this break. ❤️

I have worked **really, really hard** to make this trip happen. Rescue doesn't exactly come with paid vacation days, and stepping away from the loft is something I have a hard time doing. But my husband and I need this time together. We need to breathe, recharge, and remember that life exists outside of pigeon p**p, medication schedules, formula, laundry, cleaning, emergency calls and wondering what creature is currently screaming in the other room. 😂

**Louie’s Loft isn't going anywhere.**
The birds aren't going anywhere.
And we'll be back and ready to help again on **October 10th.** 🐦❤️

🎥 **DATELINE: THE BOHDIE FILES**
*An investigation into one parrot, four girlfriends, and absolutely no respect for personal boundaries.*

Tonight on *Dateline: Louie's Loft*, we investigate a story that has left residents, staff, and several pigeons asking the same question:

**HOW DID WE GET HERE?**

His name is **Bohdie.**

He is a parrot.

He is also, unfortunately, an as***le. 😂

Bohdie serves as Louie's Loft's unofficial **Pigeon Fun Police**, a position he created himself and takes VERY seriously.

He monitors the pigeons.

He critiques the pigeons.

He interrupts the pigeons.

He loudly announces his intrusive thoughts to the pigeons.

And he apparently believes that everything happening in the loft is somehow his business.

But investigators soon discovered that Bohdie's personal life is even more complicated.

**He has FOUR girlfriends.**

❤️ **Screwella** — The main squeeze.

Screwella is a screw in the wall.

And Bohdie is absolutely obsessed with her.

He feeds her. He kisses her. He checks on her approximately 847 times a day.

Sources describe their relationship as “intense,” “concerning,” and “mostly one-sided.”

Screwella could not be reached for comment.

❤️ **Big Red** — The songstress.

Big Red is a sticker on the dog crate.

Bohdie serenades her constantly.

Whether Big Red actually enjoys these performances remains unclear, but Bohdie has apparently interpreted her continued existence as enthusiastic consent to another concert.

❤️ **Chippa** — The one that got away.

Chippa was a paint chip on the wall.

At first, things were good.

Then Bohdie's affection became excessive.

He began “over-grooming” Chippa.

Translation:

**HE WAS EATING THE WALL.**

For the safety of everyone involved, Chippa was separated from Bohdie.

The relationship is currently considered *complicated.*

❤️ **Shadow Bird** — The mystery woman.

She is beautiful.

She is elusive.

She follows Bohdie everywhere.

She disappears whenever he tries to approach her.

She appears in every room he enters.

Investigators eventually uncovered the shocking truth:

**Shadow Bird is Bohdie's actual shadow.**

Bohdie remains convinced she is real.

At press time, he was reportedly attempting to court her by moving around the room and staring at the floor.

Meanwhile, the pigeons continue attempting to go about their daily lives while Bohdie screams his opinions from the sidelines like an elderly man yelling at children to get off his lawn.

**Four girlfriends.
Zero boundaries.
One deeply questionable parrot.**

This is the Bohdie Files.

And the investigation is ongoing.

💕 PIGEON PERSONALITY WEDNESDAY: CALLA 💕🐦

Meet Calla.

Calla is a beautiful Garden Fantail, and she is a woman who knows exactly what she wants.

She wants her husband.

Her husband, Hunter, is an Iraqi Red.

And Hunter would like you to know that he has other interests.

Specifically:

🔊 Making techno noises
⚽ Rolling cat toy balls around
⚽ Playing with cat toy balls while making techno noises
⚽ Finding more cat toy balls

Hunter is a man of culture.

Unfortunately for Hunter, Calla is a romantic. 😂

So when Hunter gets distracted with his beloved collection of cat toy balls, Calla has developed a strategy:

She puts the balls in their nest bowl.

Because apparently, if the toys are in the nest, Hunter will sit in the nest.

Problem solved.

😂😂😂

But here's the thing…

For all their ridiculousness, Calla and Hunter are genuinely in love.

They bathe together.

They groom each other.

They cuddle.

They share their nest.

And because they can't have babies of their own, they've become foster parents to babies who aren't theirs.

They don't care that those babies aren't biologically theirs.

They just know that a baby needs someone.

And Calla and Hunter are happy to be that someone. ❤️

So this week's personality award goes to:

🌸 Calla — Director of Husband Management & Foster Mom

She may have to occasionally bribe her husband with a strategically placed cat toy…

…but when it comes to love, Calla and Hunter have it figured out.

Some couples have candlelit dinners.

Some take romantic vacations.

Calla puts cat balls in a nest bowl so her husband will come sit with her.

Honestly? Goals. 😂❤️🐦

👑 **THREE NEW PERMANENT RESIDENTS HAVE ARRIVED AT THE LOFT!** 👑

We have some VERY special new faces to introduce, and honestly… we are completely obsessed. 🥹❤️

Please welcome **Wren, Avocet, and Clarice Starling!** 🐦✨

🤎 **Wren** — our gorgeous chocolate **Modena**
🩶 **Avocet** — our stunning silver lace **Modena**
🖤 **Clarice Starling** — a beautiful **Mondaine cross**

Wren and Avocet are especially exciting because they are the **first purebred Modena babies we have ever had here at Louie’s Loft!** And OH MY GOODNESS. 😍 We absolutely adore them. Modenas are such ridiculously adorable little puffballs, and these two have completely stolen our hearts.

And then there is **Clarice Starling**… 👑

Clarice is the daughter of our loft boss herself, **Paisley**, and Reggie. That makes her Loft Royalty by birthright, so naturally there was absolutely no question that she would be staying. 😂👑

Her name also continues the horror-themed naming tradition for Paisley’s babies. We’ve had **Samara**, **Eloise (RIP)**, and now **Clarice Starling** — because apparently Paisley’s children are destined to have names that sound like they belong in a horror movie. 😂🖤

Since she is royalty, she has officially **earned her spot as a permanent resident of Louie’s Loft.** 👑

All three of these babies are here to stay, and we cannot wait to watch their personalities develop and see what beautiful adults they become.

🌾 PARCHMENT — Meet the Loft Monday

MEET PARCHMENT.

Although some of you may remember him by another name...

Bob. 😂

Yes. This handsome gentleman was once called Bob.

We have since decided that a pigeon with this much history deserved something a little more distinguished.

Enter: Parchment. 🌾

Parchment was surrendered to Louie's Loft by our original head volunteer when circumstances in her life changed and she was no longer able to keep him.

But his story with us actually goes back even further.

Parchment was originally found in a park, and thanks to his leg band, we were able to learn something pretty special about him:

He is currently the oldest pigeon at Louie's Loft.

That makes Parchment more than just another resident.

He's a piece of our history.

He's been through more chapters of life than most of the pigeons here, and we're honored that when his circumstances changed, Louie's Loft could give him a safe place to land.

He's been around.

He's earned his gray feathers.

And we're pretty sure he's earned the right to be called something much fancier than Bob. 😂❤️
