About Liver Shih Tzu — Quick Facts
What makes a liver?
A liver Shih Tzu always has brown pigment — that means a brown liver nose (never black), brown eye rims, brown paw pads, and amber, honey, or green-hazel eyes. The black pigment is turned off.

Genetics in simple terms:
Liver is recessive (bb). Both mom and dad have to carry liver to produce it. That’s why it’s rare and special.

The 9 liver shades we show:
1. Solid Liver - dark chocolate brown 2. Chocolate - rich milk chocolate 3. Light Liver - light milk chocolate beige (still liver nose, not white!) 4. Liver & White - liver and white parti 5. Chocolate & White - milk chocolate and white parti 6. Liver Brindle - dark brindle stripes on liver base 7. Isabella Lavender - diluted liver, pale warm fawn beige, lightened liver pale brownish-pink nose 8. Lilac / Lavender - even lighter diluted liver, silvery fawn, very light liver nose 9. Red Liver - reddish mahogany liver
Isabella vs Lilac:
Both are diluted livers. They look like very pale fawn with a soft grayish-lavender tint — not bright purple. Their noses are the palest brownish-pink and eyes are lightest green-hazel. Many people mistake the pale nose for white, but it’s still brown pigment.

Health:
Liver pigment is healthy and natural. It does not cause health problems. It’s just a color, like black nose.

Always remember:
If the nose is black, it’s not a true liver. True liver = always brown pigment.

Eggs For Dogs – Nutritionist Notes
Gentle • Natural • Complete Protein
One of the simplest fresh foods we add here at Sugar Paws — plain cooked eggs! My girls
love them and from my nutrition course I’ve learned they’re almost a perfect protein.
Why nutritionists love them:
1. Complete Protein
Perfect amino acid profile to support muscle, skin & coat health.
2. Brain & Eye Health
Natural source of choline, lutein, and vitamins A, D, E, B12 — great for little Shih Tzu brains
and eyes.
3. Best Served Cooked
Hard-boiled is #1, scrambled plain or poached also great. Always plain — no butter, oil, or
salt.
4. How to Serve
Cool, peel, chop/mash, mix into fresh home-cooked food. Serve right away or refrigerate at
40°F.
5. Shells = Calcium
Don’t toss the shells! Dry them, grind super fine in a coffee grinder (like we do with
pumpkin seeds) and sprinkle a tiny pinch. No sharp pieces.
6. What to Avoid
No raw — raw whites have avidin which blocks biotin and risk of Salmonella. And no fried,
cheese, milk, or seasonings.
DOSAGE CHART:
Small Dogs under 25 lbs: ½ egg, 3-4 times per week
Medium Dogs 25-50 lbs: 1 egg, 3-4 times per week
Large Dogs over 50 lbs: 1 to 2 eggs, 3-4 times per week
Always plain — topper not a full meal — cook to 160°F
We do half an egg per girl, hard-boiled and mashed into their fresh food.

Whole Raw Ground Pumpkin Seeds For Dogs — Why I Use Fresh Ground Daily
Raw, whole, freshly ground unsalted pumpkin seeds have so many great health benefits for our fur loves. Grinding the whole pumpkin seeds breaks down that hard outer shell so dogs can actually absorb the nutrients and it’s safer to digest than whole seeds, which often just pass right through.
What are the nutritional benefits?
1. Urinary Health
Rich in antioxidants and healthy fats that support bladder health and normal urinary tract function. Often used for dogs that need extra bladder support.

2. Natural Dewormer Support (cucurbitacin)
Contains a natural compound called cucurbitacin that help deter intestinal parasites. It’s thought to make it harder for worms to hold on to the intestinal wall so they can be passed naturally. Daily use recommends, not just once in a while.
3. Skin & Coat Shine
Natural source of omega fatty acids, vitamin E, and zinc — nutrients that support healthy skin, a glossy coat, and help with itching and shedding from the inside out.
4. Antioxidants & Minerals
Packed with zinc, magnesium, iron, and other antioxidants that support immune system, overall wellness, and normal cell function.

How I do it:
Using a coffee grinder to grind whole raw pumpkin seeds. I grind for about 3 days worth, but know the fresher the better.
1 tsp for my small small dogs, 1 Tbsp for large dogs
Sprinkle it over their food, can be mixed into their food. Because they’re calorie-dense and have natural fat, start with ¼ teaspoon and work up to suggested amount.

Apple Cider Vinegar For Dogs - Nutritionist Notes

At Sugar Paws we love simple, natural toppers that support our bunch from the inside out.
One of our favorites is raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar with the mother.
What it may help support:
1. Digestion Support
Helps support stomach pH and good gut bacteria, less gas / bloat when used diluted in
food.
2. Itchy Skin Soother
Helps soothe yeast-related itching & irritated skin when used externally as a 50/50 rinse.
Never on open wounds.
3. Shiny Coat & Odor Control
A natural rinse for a glossier coat and helps neutralize that doggy odor.
4. Flea Repellent Support
Fleas dislike the taste/smell — helps keep them away when sprayed 50/50 and combed
through. Does not kill fleas, just helps deter.
5. Ear & Paw Support
Helps rebalance pH in ears with a gentle outer-ear wipe, and soothing paw soaks for ye**ty
paws.
6. Hot Spots & Bite
Helps soothe hot spots and bug bite irritation with a 50/50 diluted dab.
