At 2:46 AM, Mystic welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world. 💛

Mom and baby are doing well, and after a very long night, we are officially running on coffee, adrenaline, and baby horse magic. 🐴

Meet Mystic, the mare who inspired it all.

On February 3rd, we drove to an Oklahoma kill pen to bring home a mare we knew almost nothing about. Only that she was visibly pregnant and running out of time.

She was in rough shape. A 2 or 3 out of 10 on body condition, painfully thin, coat dull from neglect. But she had beautiful eyes. That was enough.

Mystic came home to Stormy Peaks Ranch and transformed. Today, she carries herself like an elegant princess, and her foal is due any day now.

Stormy Peaks Ranch is now registered with and Leslie is signed up as a volunteer driver, too.

HorseAlert is a free program that connects horse owners with volunteer trailer drivers during wildfire evacuations. You register your horses, they connect you with nearby help via text. No frantic scrolling when time is short.

We're in Park County. Wildfires are a real risk. Getting our horses registered was a no-brainer, and being a driver means we can help our neighbors when it counts.

We're on our feet and off and running, literally. 🤠

Rocky Mountain Mare & Foal Rescue is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Hartsel, Colorado. We rescue pregnant mares from kill lots, bring them to Stormy Peaks Ranch to foal safely, and place them into loving homes.

Our first rescue, Gypsy, arrived this spring from a kill pen in Oklahoma. This week she had her foal, Stormy, safe on the ground at our ranch. And as you can see, he's not wasting any time.
