Just some of the latest client dogs enjoying their final summer days!☀️🏖️
We recently sent home our latest Board and Train client, Percy. Percy came to us dealing with some big emotions—he was pulling hard on leash, barking at people coming to the door, unable to settle, a flight risk with no solid recall, and more. Beyond his genetic factors, he is a rescue who carried a large fear of new people, unfamiliar places, and novel things. He was a dog who regularly had to be on Trazodone just to exist at home and whenever company came over.
A big piece of Percy's journey was setting fair expectations around his background and genetics. As a Livestock Guardian Dog mixed with American Foxhound, he comes naturally wired with heavy breed tendencies: hyper-vigilance, territory guarding, strong voice, and independent scent drive. By the end of his 4-week board and train, Percy’s leash manners were impeccable. He now has off-leash freedom he needs on his home farm, and he gained loads of social exposure and confidence. Though he’ll always prefer being a home-on-the-farm kind of dog, he can now walk nicely and hang out during dinners on the town. He no longer barks at the door, and despite still working through a bit of separation anxiety from his parents, he is now settling into a crate—allowing his family to leave the house without worry of him counter surfing or eating things.
While Percy has done a lot of work to fit his family’s lifestyle, his owners have also learned how to accommodate and lean into the genetic wiring and sensitivity he brings to the table. Living with a dog like Percy is a two-way street; it takes molding your routines to meet those natural instincts while maintaining clear rules and structure. Since he’s still just a year-old pup, this will be a continued effort at home, but he now has a solid understanding and respect for his house rules and his parents. Best of all, he no longer lives on Trazodone and really gets to enjoy just being a dog living on a farm!
🏆A board and train is never just about training the dog; it’s about coaching owners how to understand, manage, and advocate for the specific dog in front of them. That doesn't stop at pickup, either—part of our program includes ongoing support and regular updates, and we are here to help guide you through the transition as much as you need once your pup goes home. The training is an investment into the dog and the continued support!
🍂We currently have a Board & Train opening for mid to late September! Send us a message to grab the spot.🍂
