💛Spalding County Animal Care & Control August Review! 💙

Amidst all the changes going on here at Spalding County Animal Care & Control, we still bring animals into the shelter and out to their forever homes.

All shelter data is available online through the Georgia Department of Agriculture. However, numbers without context mean very little. The shelter has staff on-site daily to oversee the care of animals within the shelter. However, due to the conditions some the animals came into the shelter with, we are not able to save each one, no matter how hard we try.

Some of the animals that died in care or were euthanized due to quality of life did so while the person that cared for them day in and day out, held them. The responsibility to euthanize animals deemed Dangerous by the courts also falls to Animal Control. The decision for euthanasia is not one made lightly and is one reached by veterinary professionals and/or shelter staff.

We celebrate adoptions and transfers out because they represent lives saved. We also celebrate strays brought in, as it allows a second chance not afforded on the street.

💙🩵💛Spalding County Animal Care & Control will be CLOSED Saturday, September 5th , through Monday, September 7th in observance of the Labor Day holiday. We will reopen to the public Tuesday, September 8th at 10am. 💙🩵💛

While our office will be closed, our dedicated staff will continue caring for the animals in our shelter throughout the holiday weekend. 🐾

🐾💗 **LOOK AT THAT SMILE! MEET SKYE!** 💗🐾

Look at this **life-loving beauty!** Skye doesn’t seem to have a care in the world right now—and after what she has been through, that smile means everything. ❤️

Skye was brought into our care along with several other dogs and a nursing mom from a **cruelty situation**. Some arrived after living on logging chains, in the cruelest of situations and some were so severely emaciated that, heartbreakingly, they were medically let go per Veternarian advice. This baby was so ematicated she wore a sweater in May too keep her body heat in.💛

But others, like **Skye, have blossomed.** 🌸 With a safe place to rest, proper nutrition, medical attention, gentle human touch, patience, and lots of love, we have watched these dogs begin to learn what life is *supposed* to feel like.

Some have already gone on to rescue partners and are thriving while awaiting their forever homes. Now we want that same beautiful ending for Skye. 🏡

Just look at her—rolling in the grass, smiling from ear to ear and soaking up every bit of happiness she can find. **Her past may be part of her story, but it does not have to define her future.**
