Yesterday was one of those days that perfectly sums up what life looks like balancing real estate and rescue.
I got a call from a friend about a very small, severely emaciated dog that had wandered into her yard needing help. At the time, I was headed to show a home to a client, but planned to head there as soon as we wrapped up. Before I could even leave the showing, two additional large dogs showed up as well.
Thankfully, after checking things out, we were able to locate the owner of the two larger dogs and get them safely reunited with their family. ❤️
But the smallest dog… he was another story entirely. The moment I saw him, my heart sank. He was in absolutely heartbreaking condition. I checked him for a microchip, but there wasn’t one. I brought him home so I could carefully remove the painful matting and really assess how bad things were.
Nearly two hours later with a lot of patience, gentle clipping, breaks for tiny amounts of food, and plenty of reassurance this little guy finally got some relief. He was bathed, treated for his irritated skin, and tucked into a fluffy bed for what I hope is the first safe, comfortable sleep he’s had in a very long time.
He is still extremely malnourished, has blisters on his feet, inflammation, and likely many more issues we haven’t uncovered yet. But for now, he’s safe.
Some days, my world looks like contracts, showings, negotiations, and helping families find home. Other days, it looks like this stopping everything to help an animal that has nobody else. And honestly, I think both are deeply connected. Home isn’t just a place… it’s safety, love, compassion, and knowing someone cared enough to show up for you.
Please keep this little guy in your prayers as we work to get him the medical care, nourishment, and love he deserves. I truly hope this is the beginning of a much kinder chapter for him. 🐾
Thank you Alissa M Shealy for acting quickly and making sure they were safe until we could find a solution for them
To donate toward his vet care we have several ways to help
