Greenville Humane Society The Greenville Humane Society is one of the largest no-kill shelters in the southeast.

The Greenville Humane Society is one of the largest no-kill shelters in the southeast, just behind Atlanta. Since we changed locations in 2011, we have placed over 48,000 animals in their forever homes. Beyond adoptions, we also have one of the largest public low cost spay/neuter and vaccination clinics in South Carolina. 96 YEARS OF SECOND CHANCES. A LEGACY WORTH CONTINUING.

As we celebrate 96 years of Greenville Humane Society, we’re reflecting on what those 96 years truly represent: generations of people who chose to care.

Volunteers who gave their time. Donors who gave what they could. Fosters who opened their homes. Adopters who opened their hearts. Veterinary professionals, advocates, community partners, and animal lovers who all played a part in making second chances possible.

And those second chances become legacies.

Earlier this year, Chief arrived at GHS after surviving a close-range shooting. He needed lifesaving medical care, and our community showed up for him. Today, Chief isn’t just a beloved GHS alum - he’s an official member of our staff, bringing joy to our team every day and reminding us just how much one second chance can change.

Chief is one story. But over 96 years, there have been countless others.

And there will be countless more.

The legacy we leave behind isn’t just measured in years. It’s measured in lives changed. Today, as we celebrate our 96th birthday, we’re asking our community to help us Fetch the Future and build the next chapter of this legacy with a $96,000 birthday campaign.

A gift of $9.60, $19.30 in honor of the year GHS was incorporated, or $96 for 96 years can help make sure there are more healing stories, more forever homes, more wagging tails, more purrs, and more second chances for generations to come.

Because 96 years of caring for animals didn’t happen because of one person or one moment. It happened because people like you decided that these lives mattered.

Calling all lovers of fluffy puppies, shepherds, and tiny babies with BIG futures - Koda is the one for you! 🐾

This 2 month old Shepherd is basically a walking cloud with legs. His fur is SO. FLUFFY, and while he may be tiny right now, we're pretty sure he's got some serious growing to do. Like… "You may not have room in your bed ever again" growing.

Koda is sweet, adorable, fluffy beyond reason, and ready to find the family who will watch him go from tiny puppy floof to BIG, magnificent floof. If you've always wanted a shepherd, a Great Pyrenees, a giant cuddlebug, or all three wrapped into one ridiculously fluffy package - come meet Koda! 💚

Meet Chloe, a senior Chihuahua who has reached a level of ROUND that scientists are currently unable to explain.

We are not saying Chloe is fat. We are simply saying that if you rolled her down a hill, we would expect her to achieve a respectable speed.

That scarf? A cry for help. It is wrapped around her neck like it has been assigned a job it is wildly unqualified to perform. One sneeze and that thing is going to eject itself ALL the way out of Greenville County.

She is shaped less like a Chihuahua and more like a baked potato you forgot about in the microwave. And when you picked up your phone to look at her, we're pretty sure the device gained 3 pounds out of solidarity.

But here's the thing: Chloe is a SENIOR lady, and she has absolutely no interest in hearing our criticism. She has lived long enough to know that she is beautiful, she is fabulous, and frankly, we are all just lucky to be in her presence. She deserves a cozy retirement home where she can be adored, spoiled, and gently encouraged toward a healthier lifestyle.

Look at those little WHITE FEET! 🐾

This 3 month old might be tiny, but he has the stance of someone who has VERY IMPORTANT BUSINESS to attend to. With those perfectly polished little socks, a bold black-and-white coat, and a strong little posture, Ivan looks like he’s ready to take on the world - or at least the nearest toy mouse.

He’s got the cutest little feet, the biggest kitten energy, and a whole lot of growing to do. Now all he needs is a forever home to grow up in! 💚

Stormy has every reason not to trust the world. But somehow, she still chooses love. 💚

This sweet 3 year old girl came to us after being rescued by our partners at the ASPCA from one of the largest dogfighting seizures in Texas history. More than 200 dogs were rescued across 20+ locations, many found tethered to heavy chains, living in makeshift kennels, and bearing scars consistent with dogfighting.

Stormy survived that.

And now, she’s learning what it means to be loved.

In the shelter, Stormy can be shut down and slow to trust new people. But give her a little time and patience, and you’ll see the sweetest girl underneath. Even better? Stormy absolutely LIGHTS UP around other dogs. 🥹

In a home, she blossoms. She’s loving, affectionate, and so much more comfortable when she has a canine friend by her side. In fact, a doggy companion isn’t just a bonus for Stormy - she NEEDS at least one other dog in her forever home. Her confidence soars around her canine friends, and watching her come out of her shell is something truly special.

After everything Stormy has been through, she deserves a life where she gets to be exactly what she was always meant to be: a beloved dog, surrounded by kindness, safety, and a friend who helps her feel brave.

Her past is heartbreaking. But her future doesn’t have to be.

Stormy is ready for her forever. She just needs someone willing to give her the time, patience, and doggy friendship she deserves. 💚

SEPTEMBER STATS ARE IN - AND WE HAVE A LOT TO CELEBRATE! 🎉

Last month, our community helped us make a HUGE difference for pets across the Upstate: 1,485 spays and neuters were performed! 🐾

That’s 1,485 animals who won’t contribute to the unwanted pet population and who now have protection from certain reproductive health issues. And if that number sounds big, just wait… it’s 300 MORE spays and neuters than we performed the month before!

Every surgery represents a pet whose family chose prevention, a shelter animal getting one step closer to adoption, or a community cat getting a second chance to live a healthier life.

Here’s to continuing to fix the future, one surgery at a time! 🐶🐱💚
