Meet Dakota. He turned 14 years old today.
What makes today even more special is that Dakota is also a 10-year cancer survivor.
I remember the day vividly when the vet told me he had an aggressive form of melanoma at just 4 years old. The oncologist said the odds weren’t great, but there was still hope with aggressive treatment.
After surgery, months of radiation, years of melanoma vaccines, and holding my breath with every chest X-ray to make sure the cancer hadn’t spread… he’s still here, living his very best life.
The silver hair on his neck and ear from the radiation reminds me every day of the battle he fought. His tail wags and gentle nose bumps remind me that every appointment, every treatment, every worry, and every moment was worth it.

Happy 14th birthday, Dakota. ❤️ You will be getting lots of treats today!
