Part 1:
Preparing for Our Raffle Winners' Weekend Stay 😂🐴

Getting ready for a simple trip to Highwood to take our raffle winners up to the cabin and on their horseback adventure should have been easy...
Should have been.

Instead, we got:
✅ Emergency trailer repairs with High-Speed Twine™ (DOT approved in our hearts)

✅ A full meeting of the Kinder Cowboy Union Crew
One person works
Everyone else supervises
Poor pay
No benefits
Unlimited horse hair in your vehicle

✅ The dogs disappearing to chase bunnies the exact moment we were ready to leave

✅ A surprise search-and-rescue mission before we could even get out of the driveway

✅ Kira running herself into exhaustion chasing who-knows-what and requiring a hydration break before we even left home 😂

Sometimes social media makes it look like we just saddle up and ride off into the sunset...

Reality usually looks a lot more like twine repairs, missing dogs, chaos, and last-minute problem solving.
But somehow it always comes together in the end. 🤠

Stay tuned for Part 2 as we finally make it to Highwood where our raffle winners were settled into the cabin for their mountain getaway awaiting their sunset adventure!

The Great Escape(s)

Apparently the horses got together and scheduled a team-building exercise this weekend... 🤦‍♂️🐴

Our raffle winners came up to enjoy their cabin stay and horseback adventure -stay tuned for that 😎
Everything was going great until the gate was forgotten... 😅
This was poor communication on our part for not mentioning it, buuuuut anyway...

A few hours later we discovered several of our horses had decided they had important business elsewhere and were casually making their way down the road like they paid property taxes there 🤦‍♀️

Cue Gabriel spending the next several miles playing "Cowboy Traffic Control" while convincing a small herd of horses that their pasture was actually a pretty nice place to be 🤷‍♀️🐴➡️

Meanwhile...
Back at home...

The horses apparently received the same memo because our Lamb Cam caught another group plotting their own escape. 🤦‍♀️🙄🙃

At this point we're starting to believe the horses are revolting 😤

✔️ Gates left open
✔️ Horses on the road
✔️ Horses escaping at home
✔️ Lamb Cam surveillance footage
✔️ Our blood pressure increasing by the minute

The good news is everyone made it safely back where they belonged, no horses were harmed, and our raffle winners got a bonus "authentic ranch experience" they definitely weren't expecting. 🤣

Life with horses is never boring... and if everything goes according to plan, you're probably doing it wrong or we are seriously doing something wrong 😅

Who's got the best horse escape artist story? Let's hear it! 👇😂🐴

Part 2:
Bringing the Old Cabin Back to Life 🪵🎨🏡

What most people see is the finished cabin.
What they don’t always see is the chaos it takes to get there 😂

This master bedroom started as a full construction zone — paint cans everywhere, tools scattered around, furniture piled up, dust on everything, and us questioning our life choices at least a couple times along the way 🤦‍♂️😅

And because nothing can ever be easy up here… we also had to carry a giant dresser across the bridge and all the way up the hill to the cabin by hand because the mud was too bad and the dresser was too big to fit in the side-by-side 😂💀

Needless to say… cabin renovations in the mountains apparently double as strength training.

But little by little, the vision started coming together ❤️

There’s something really special about taking an old cabin with so much history and breathing life back into it while still keeping that authentic Montana feel.

The before-and-after at the end honestly made all the long days, unexpected snowstorms, muddy boots, and paint-covered clothes worth it. 🔥🏡

Still a lot more work ahead… but we’re getting closer every trip 👀🏔️

Part 1: The Drive In ❄️🚚🏔️

Loaded down with furniture, supplies, tools, and probably way too much caffeine…

We made the drive from Helena to Highwood to keep working on the cabin.

Everything was going according to plan(not really) until Montana decided to remind us who’s really in charge 🙄

We woke up to an unexpected blanket of snow the first night up there — because apparently “cabin renovation season” also means “surprise winter survival mode.” ❄️🤦‍♂️

More late nights, muddy boots, hauling furniture, and watching these cabins slowly come to life piece by piece. Stay tuned!

Part 2 coming next 👀
We’ll show you the work we did on the master bedroom — and the final result. 🪵🔥🏡

PART 2:
Gus’s first ride 🐴🔥

After surviving:

✔️ the fence disaster
✔️ the landscaping destruction
✔️ the Great Toilet Lid Incident of 2026
✔️ and getting completely rained out...
..BUT we got Gus' first ride in on the lawn! 😂
This horse has such a good head on him ❤️ We are not going to want to give this one back! 😭

Thank you Matt Kegel for always sending us amazing horses(and mules) for us to fall in love with! Gus if definetely a new favorite 😎

There may have still been:

• some questionable decisions
• random moments of emotional support from the other horses
• a little bit of “figure it out as we go”
• and enough chaos to keep things interesting 🤦‍♂️😂

But that’s kind of the beauty of horses and adventures like this.
Not every ride is polished. Not every weekend goes according to plan. Sometimes you’re building fences out of twine one minute and riding through the yard the next 🤣

More adventures, more chaos, and probably more property damage coming soon… stay tuned 👀

PART 1
Our "weekend away" to see some friends...

The horses had themselves a FULL weekend adventure 🙄

The property we stayed at is currently under construction and will eventually be available as a rental in the next 6–8 business months -stay tuned... 👀

What started as a simple overnight stay quickly turned into:

✔️ Emergency fence engineering

✔️ Borrowing livestock panels from our very helpful and friendly neighbors

✔️ Twine + porch railings + pure determination

✔️ Launching of “The Kinder Cowboy Fencing & Lawn Services” 🌱🐴

While we were trying to get the yard horse-ready before our friend got off work… the horses were apparently hard at work too:

• mowing the lawn
• ripping freshly planted trees out like carrots 🥕🤦‍♀️
• redecorating the patio furniture
• flinging fire pit screens around like rodeo toys
• and there may have been a loss of a toilet lid shattering on the porch as well... 😅😬

And after ALL that… we got completely rained out and never even made it on the ride 🤦‍♂️😂

We will be bringing temporary fence materials on all our future horse trips! 🫡

Honestly though, weekends like this are half the fun. Not every adventure goes according to plan, but somehow those are always the stories you remember the most.

Stay tuned for Part 2: Gus’s first ride 🐴🔥

Yesterday definitely reminded us that life in the mountains has a mind of its own. ❄️🐴
We hauled all the horses up to the cabins, started getting everything ready for tour season… and then woke up to a surprise snowstorm. Montana likes to keep us humble sometimes.
We’re still running tours and getting everything prepared, but we also want to start showing more of the REAL side of this lifestyle — not just the beautiful horseback rides, sunsets, and highlight reels, but also the unexpected weather, long days, muddy boots, frozen fingers, problem-solving, and everything that comes with building this dream.
Because truthfully… this life is incredible, but it’s not always easy.
We think sharing more of that journey makes the adventure even more meaningful — and hopefully a little more relatable too.
This is just the beginning of us documenting more behind-the-scenes moments up here at the cabins, on the mountain, and with the horses. We’re also getting our YouTube channel going soon so you all can follow along with the full adventure.
Thanks for supporting this wild ride with us. 🤍 -The Kinder Cowboy
