🐾 FOOD FOR THOUGHT…
If your dog tried to dig through concrete, how long do you think they’d keep trying?
Probably not very long.
Why? Because they’re not getting anything out of it. It isn’t rewarding, it isn’t enjoyable, and it doesn’t accomplish anything.
Now think about those things your dog does that drive you crazy…
🐕 Jumping on people
🐕 Barking for attention
🐕 Counter surfing
🐕 Pulling you toward something they want
🐕 Pawing, whining, stealing things or demanding attention
If the behavior keeps happening, there’s a good chance your dog is getting something out of it.
Attention. Food. Access. Excitement. Interaction. Getting you to move, talk, look at them—or give in.
Dogs repeat behaviors that work.
And every time an unwanted behavior gets your dog what they wanted, that behavior gets a little more practice and a little more valuable.
Bad manners that continue to pay will continue.
Sometimes changing your dog’s behavior starts with asking one simple question:
👉 “What is my dog getting out of doing this?”
Find the payoff, and you’ve found an important piece of the training puzzle.
🐾 Food for thought.
