Lainey update...

She came home yesterday afternoon pretty sleepy most of the day. They were able to save her leg! She did have a lot of road rash on her hip that was basically dead skin that would and was sluffing off. After shaving her they saw the extent and it was more then they were expecting. So some tissue and dying muscle had to be removed so they could stitch her leg back up with healthy tissue. So we have been warned that we will have extensive would care for some time. They also found that her ankle and foot were shattered when they opened her up. The X-ray that were taken and sent to they surgeon didn't have her feet in it so he wasn't prepared for that. He was able to pin them and he said those will need to be removed.
Last night she stood! On her own! Well, I balanced her and it was just a short time but baby steps are all we are hoping for!
Today she's been pretty sore. She was able to go outside for a bit and watch her pups through the fence of course she perked up and kind of sat up like her proud and protective momma self😜 this afternoon she's been in a lot of pain. The swelling is going down she isn't really wanting to stand. She's whining and yelps when I roll her. We are keeping up on her pain meds and turning her. She's still eating and drinking. Hopefully tomorrow the pain will be less.

Ok it saddens me soo bad to make this post and if you're finding out this way I'm sorry. It's been a whirlwind of a weekend!
On Friday September 11th our sweet Lainey girl was hit by a truck driven by our neighbor going way too fast on our road! I understand it's our fault she was out there but my argument is what if that was my kids riding their bikes or scooters? Or bringing the trash cans from the end orf the road? Cars shouldn't be going more then 35 down residential roads period! Lainey is our dog that typically never leaves the property or goes outside the gate unless she instructed to. She's our "rule follower" for sure! When the accident happened I was inside packing my bag to get ready for a weekend at my son's baseball tournament. I had picked all the kids up from school so they were here including my son's teammate and his two younger siblings who were going to ride with us to meet up with their mom at work and head down to the hotel. The kids had just been outside playing and came in for a drink. I was in and out cleaning out the car and loading it. All of a sudden all of our dogs were barking howling and screaming including all of our puppies! I was upstairs like what the heck is going on! I ran outside with no shoes on because I have never heard them act like that I knew something was wrong. All the kids of course followed wondering what's going on. I posted the videos of Lainey chasing pigeons outside the gate and the after video I'll spare you the video of her wretched accident and the sounds as she laid in the ditch! We were all devastated I thought for sure she was going to have to be put down! When I picked her up she was swollen and her hind end felt like mush, almost like the squishy dumpling things the kids love. She's one of my babies and I literally sat in the street screaming and crying! Some of these videos are raw at the time of the accident. Updates that I was sending family and friends. I lost all my lashes and no makeup I ended up in Rancho Cordova at the hospital with two different slides on my feet lol! I'll make the long story short. We started at animal Medical center in Auburn who was amazing caring and very helpful they transferred us to Rancho Cordova VCA hospital which is an emergency hospital. They wanted to put Laney in ICU in case anything major happened. Chris drove in from the fire he was working on in Monterey and Kydon went with his friend to the hotel for his baseball tournament. Animal Medical center informed us that she had a crushed hip and a crushed femur there was no fluid in her abdomen which meant no internal bleeding at the time. But anything could happen in the next 24 hours that she was in critical condition. In Rancho Cordova they wanted to keep her in ICU to get her stable until today when the surgeon could see her. At the cost of $11,000 +. And then the plan would be to repair the femur at the cost of 15 to $20,000+. She would then need to stay and repair the broken pelvis as well. The amount of money and all the injuries and all the what ifs was overwhelming we were a mess and several times thought that maybe we would have to put our baby girl down. If she crashed or had lung contusions ended up with pneumonia or a collapsed lung ruptured bladder and other internal organs or even internal bleeding we had to really sit with what we where willing to spend. 50-$100,000 to save her life? Or really just to try to save her life because nothing was guaranteed. We ended up deciding to bring her home and I would do her care and if she took a turn for the worse we would make the decision to take her in and have her euthanized. We took the motorhome to the baseball tournament instead of staying in the hotel so that she could be with us and I could monitor her and care for her. I was not going to let her sit in a cold scary hospital all by yourself only to come up with a conclusion that she would have to be euthanized. If she was going to have that fate I was going to let her do all her favorite things first. Ride in the motorhome watch our son's baseball game be with her kids and her family. On Sunday morning she woke me up at 4:30 a.m. nudging me with her nose whining and acting like she really needed to go outside to go potty she hadn't p*ed since the accident and she wouldn't go so I hopped into the driver's seat while my family slept and we drove to Davis. There they were able to manually Express her bladder and do an ultrasound to conclude that everything was still intact and her bladder did not rupture. Now we were worried if there was nerve damage causing her not to be able to release her urine. They did the ultrasound to find no fluid in her abdomen and her heart looked good so we went ahead and decided to take her back with us. We had paid a deposit and set up surgery for Tuesday morning. We were praying and hoping that we make it until then! She was barely eating or drinking and she finally ate a piece of pretzel Lexi gotat the baseball game. So I bought 4 more and was prepared to buy a box to put in the freezer on the way home lol. She needs to eat with several of her meds! She ended up p*eing outside last night as I held her hind end up! That was great progress! I really think she's so potty trained that she was just holding it. The concern was was there nerve damage or damage in the brain causing her to not be able to p*e?
So conclusion she is able to p*e she's alert and awake and trying to pull herself around with no hind legs. She wants to be with all of us she's eating and taking her pills and drinking and pottying. And I believe now that the swelling is down she does have feeling in both her feet on the back end. We are praying that with tomorrow's surgery they are able to save her leg. If the leg is able to be repaired that will hold the pelvis in place and it should heal on its own with only one surgery for the femur. If we end up having to amputate her leg she will likely have to have another surgery in several weeks to repair her pelvis. That will also add the her healing time. We are praying for the first outcome! Thank you to all of our friends and family who have supported and helped with our children, the puppies and all our other animals during this time! I appreciate all that you all have done! It truly takes a village and everyone knows that these dogs are our family members. They are known throughout our community and all the kids love them at the sporting events. We are thankful and blessed for the time we have had with our sweet girl. We pray she will be here with us for many more years!

🐾 Pup-date! – 8/1/26 🐾

All of the puppies are doing great! ❤️ We are starting to see their little personalities emerge. Some are calm and shy, some are confident and playful, and some seem to be a little bit of everything depending on the moment! They have all started on Purina Pro Plan Puppy Food and are doing wonderfully. They're still nursing several times a day, but Shania and Lainey are definitely enjoying the little breaks they get when they can come out of the puppy pens.

These are our first summer litters, and it's been a little challenging to keep up with photos because we've had such a busy month! Lainey's puppies were born while my husband and son were at baseball All-Star practice, and we were rushing to get to Kydon's NorCal Rock Racing event at Prairie City. Of course, we weren't about to leave the babies home alone all weekend, so they came along and got to meet all the kiddos at the racetrack! Lainey was so proud of her babies.

A few days later, Shania surprised us by delivering 10 puppies almost a week early. Unfortunately, we lost the two tiniest runts. 💔 It was heartbreaking, but we're so thankful the remaining puppies have continued to thrive.

The adventures didn't stop there! All of the puppies traveled with us to Burney, California, for our family camping trip. Shania and Lainey loved meeting campers and enjoying the campground. The puppies spent most of their time relaxing safely in the motorhome but still got plenty of socialization and snuggles around the campfire.

Later in the month, the puppies traveled back to Prairie City SVRA for another race. By then, they were old enough to be held, loved on, and cuddled by all the little racers. It was such a fun experience watching them soak up all the attention!

Now that they're getting bigger, the puppies spend their days in their outdoor play pen, and they are absolutely loving all the extra space to run, explore, and play!

Now we are gearing up for the Nevada County Fair. Preparing Livestock and decorations!

These pups are lacking in the photos but they are definitely not lacking in the socializing department!

Reach out if you'd like to schedule a time to come visit puppies!
