A Ranch Day is more than a day of play. Every activity has a purpose: reinforcing the everyday life skills that allow dogs to confidently navigate the world outside of formal training sessions.

Throughout the day, dogs practice:
• navigating shared spaces
• maintaining manners around other dogs
• learning to settle and regulate
• engaging appropriately
• moving through everyday environments with clear expectations and routine

Depending on the day, dogs may also experience livestock, equipment, novel environments, canal walks, conditioning work, and other ranch experiences in a safe, structured, and controlled manner.

Ranch Days are available exclusively to existing TAC clients whose dogs have successfully completed their initial training program with Kourtni.
This ensures every dog attending has a shared foundation of communication, expectations, and handling, allowing the group to remain safe, productive, and intentional for everyone involved.

Please remember to send your dog with their TAC-approved slip collar and any additional training equipment needed for the day.

Training isn't about creating dogs that never feel uncomfortable.

It's about helping them develop the skills to navigate discomfort without feeling the need to react.

Confidence isn't built by avoiding challenging situations.

It's built through repeated opportunities to experience them successfully.

Annie isn't completely comfortable here.
She's unsure.
She's processing.
She's experiencing stress.
And that's okay.

She's building resilience.

Those quiet moments may not look like much.
But they're often where the most meaningful progress happens.

Movement is a need.

So is learning.

So is problem-solving.

So is rest.

A dog who is physically exhausted isn't necessarily a fulfilled dog.

Fulfillment comes from meeting the whole dog, not just their physical needs.

Exercise absolutely has its place. It supports physical health, emotional regulation, and overall well-being.

But if we're relying on exercise alone to manage reactivity, anxiety, or impulsive behavior, we're managing the symptom rather than addressing the cause.

Understanding the difference changes the way we train.

When Bugsy first became an AC client, his behavioral challenges were significant.

This little guy was living in constant overdrive. He was shut down, reactive under pressure, and absolutely a bite risk.

Soaking up his environment, exploring, and just being a dog weren’t really on his radar.

Fast forward, and this unbothered king has become a certified adventure lover.

He’s built the resilience to tolerate stress, the confidence to explore the world around him, and apparently… an appreciation for a tasty little view.

A dog who can move through the world with ease, without feeling the need to react to everything around them, holds far more value than flashy, perfect obedience.

My goal for each of my clients is to help their dog learn how to:
Slow down.
Observe.
Process.
Communicate.
And move through uncertainty with confidence and resilience.

Those are the skills that create lasting stability.
And, in my opinion, they're worth far more than perfection.

One major misconception about behavior modification is that the goal is simply to stop unwanted behaviors.

Obviously, changing unwanted or problematic behaviors is the end goal, but that's only part of the picture.
The lasting changes happen when we help dogs develop the skills they were missing in the first place.

For Pooka, that meant learning how to:
Regulate his emotions.
Tolerate frustration.
Communicate more clearly and make better decisions under pressure.

As we focused on helping him develop the skills he was missing, the behaviors began to change alongside them.

Training isn't about controlling every decision your dog makes.

It's about teaching them how to make better ones.

Every thoughtful choice your dog makes without being told is evidence of something much deeper than obedience.

It's evidence of understanding.

And that's the kind of learning that carries over into everyday life.
