Debunking some things ➡️

• Amazon vest ≠ fake service dog. It’s the training that makes the dog! But if you buy a vest and just slap it on a dog without preparing them for the job, you suck 🫶🏻

• Mobility work is HARD on a dog’s body. We have to make sure they’re structurally sound - which can only be assessed via properly placed x-rays. In addition to x-rays, it’s important we keep our dogs physically fit and in good condition to do the job of mobility!

• Conditioning tools is complex. If you’ve never done it before, it’s EXTREMELY important to learn from someone with experience.

• Should service dogs be reliant on tools? No, absolutely not. But it’s not harmful to use them in training or as backup in new situations! Using them correctly does not impede a service dog’s ability to work.

In a world designed to guilt us into buying this course, or getting this training aid, and all your problems are fixed - what if I told you you’re exactly where you need to be?

What if I said you only fail when you stop honoring yourself and your dog?

A mistake or setback doesn’t define us - how we react to those things do!

I’ve met and worked with hundreds of service dog handlers over the nearly decade I’ve been in this industry. I can count on two hands the amount of handlers or trainers that truly did a disservice to their working dog. So why is it so common for owner handlers to feel like they’re falling behind or not succeeding?

Because you are succeeding! You’re doing the best you can with the information you have. Remember that.

the heartbreaking part of operating a virtual training program is that my clients are all across the country and I rarely get to meet them. but sometimes the stars align and I get to see you guys!!

Cassidy and Rhodes have been in the virtual program since the end of December 2024 and truly Rhodes is such a beautiful example of a service dog. I’ve loved watching him grow into such a distinguished young man!

this weekend Cassidy and Rhodes found themselves at the Kentuckiana dog show cluster, which is only three hours away from where I live, so my sister and I drove up to meet them, hang out, and watch the show! we also got to see a few other Kentucky based friends as well!

seeing Rhodes show was so much fun, he’s such an expressive dog and a beautiful example of the Doberman breed (I say with limited knowledge of the breed, but TRUST ME). he got to meet Winnie and boy did they flirt hard! Winnie found a new boyfriend it seems 😂

I’m so lucky when I get to meet virtual clients, this is the second time I’ve been able to! I’m so proud of this team and I can’t wait to see where they go from here. Rhodes is so close to the fully trained title which is bittersweet. on one hand, he’s accomplished nearly everything we could ask for. one the other hand, I won’t see his biweekly shenanigans anymore 😂

Come with Stella and I to bring Elliott and Winnie to the movies for the first time!

Elliott is a program dog with and has been matched with his handler for over a year now! He will be going home to her later this year as a fully trained multipurpose service dog.

Winnie is my personal service dog that has been through all Cosmic Service Dog training protocols!

I’m sure yall have noticed a lack of Goose content, and I wanted to wait to share the news until things were finalized!

Over the new year, Goose washed from service work and was looking for a new home. This is always a heavy decision to make but we do it because we love our dogs and cherish them dearly.

Once the decision was made, I was given permission by Goose’s owners to rehome her since I had a lot of connections in the dog world.

We had many, many different people interested in adopting Goose, from all over the state of Tennessee. But her forever home was only a few miles away from mine. She’s staying in my town, with a lovely couple and their two daughters, and being spoiled beyond belief.

Matching a dog, even as a pet, is a big responsibility. Goose has been in her new home for about a month now and they fall in love with her more every single day.

The best part? My dogs can still have playdates with her and I get updates on her all the time. She is thriving 🥰

Now, with Goose in her new home, I’m down a spot in my house! I’m currently open for board and trains but I am going to be very picky about them because I quite enjoy keeping my sanity. And then, closer to the end of the summer, board and trains will be closed again as I gear up for some exciting things!

SDiT Tally is essentially a newborn right now - taking the time to soak up her environment, learn that her mommy is the coolest thing in it, and staying safe from the view of a stroller!

We set a timer for 10 minutes and decided to call it quits a bit early - Tally started checking out a bit so we left on a high note! Now she gets to sleep at home and soak up all the information she got on this trip!

I also love when I get Nashville clients because that means we can train at which is my favorite shop in the city 🫶🏻😁

SDiT Winnie had her second mall trip yesterday! She worked on heeling on and off leash, dropped item retrieves & holds, and implied stays at a distance.

Winnie is shaping up to be an incredible medical alert & autism service dog for myself. I’m excited for her future as she turns two in a little over five months!

grown up Goose turned one a couple days ago!

like a typical shepherd, she’s been slow to mature. and yet she still knows so much! let’s do a little yearly recap ⤵️

Goose knows:
- dynamic heel foundations (not 100% proofed, but she’s getting there!)
- settling for long periods of time (~1 hour)
- people = food (auto engagement when people walk nearby or interact with her, even when I’m distracted)
- household manners (no counter surfing, auto settling around the other dogs, etc)
- grooming manners (polite for nail filing, brushing, and baths)
- positions + implied stays
- coping skills for stressful situations (looks to me for guidance + understands a plethora of pattern games)
- foundations for dropped item retrieve

very proud of her growth overall, she is Miss Squeaky (the shepherd whine, iykyk) but she is also Miss Takes Everything In Stride. she bounces back from stress so quickly and learns new things beautifully!

next week she goes home to her handler for a few weeks, then we’re going to hit the ground running around the holidays! prepping for busy shopping areas, festivities with my family, etc etc!
