Two summers ago I had eight Persian cucumber plants absolutely cranking out fruit and I was dreaming about dozens of jars of pickles by August. Then one morning I walked out and one of them was wilting. I assumed it needed water, gave it a good soak, came back the next day and not only had it not improved — two more plants were wilting. Within a week every single cucumber I had looked completely done. By the time I figured out what had actually happened it was too late to do anything except pull the whole lot, burn it and start over next year. This summer I walked straight out to the garden with a roll of aluminum foil and ten minutes later my cucumbers were protected. The explanation of why it works is in the comments and once you read it you will never skip this step again.
