Meet Boone, he’s 4 years old, and his family has an 18 month old (human baby 🤣) at home with another baby due any day now — which means life is already busy enough without an out of control dog adding to the chaos.

Right now, Boone will take off if he’s given the opportunity off leash. On walks, you can see him pulling his owner around on what is supposed to be a “casual” walk… although I’m not sure there’s anything casual or enjoyable about that. 😂

At home, he steals food while they’re trying to feed their toddler, barks nonstop while the family eats, and has gotten to the point where they often have to separate him during meals.

And that’s exactly what I want to change.

Over the next 4 weeks, we’re going to work on giving Boone the obedience and structure he needs so he can actually be included in everyday family life — reliable off leash, enjoyable to walk, calm around meals, and able to be around the kids without constantly needing to be managed or separated.

This is Part 1 of 3.

Part 3 will be Boone’s complete before and after transformation when he goes home.

Dog 001 Part 1/3

This is exactly why we film the drop-off.

Today you’re seeing Oreo exactly as he came in — pulling, jumping, overstimulated, and with very little obedience / control around his owner.

Good news - that’s why he’s with me

No polished training clips. No before-and-after yet. This is the starting point.

He’ll be with me for the next 4 weeks, and I’m going to document the process along the way so you can see what actually changes — not just the finished product.

This is Part 1 of 3

Part 2 will be a midpoint progress update, and Part 3 will be the full before-and-after transformation at go-home.

I thought offering more programs would make me more money.

It was the opposite.

I cut private lessons, daily training programs, and group classes and went all-in on board & train.

It was scary at first because I was literally eliminating ways people could give me money.

But it ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my business.

I made more money.

I got more of my time back.

My training results got better, which led to happier clients, which led to more referrals.

And I started attracting better clients who were willing to invest in getting the result they actually wanted.

Instead of training a dog for an hour, sending them home, and hoping the owner does the homework (which many owners struggle to keep up with), I get to do what I’m best at first: train the dog.

Then once the dog is trained, I teach the owner how to handle and maintain what I built.

Fewer services. Better results. Better clients. More time. More referrals. More money.

Sometimes the best way to grow your business isn’t adding another offer.

It’s figuring out what you do best and going all-in on it.

“Just let the dog sniff.”

For a lot of my clients, that sounds great in theory — but in reality, the walk has become such a pain that they don’t even want to do it anymore.

Their dog is stopping every few feet, pulling toward every smell, trying to say hi to every dog or person, chasing squirrels, zig-zagging across the sidewalk, and turning what should be a simple walk into a frustrating chore.

I’ve had clients flat-out tell me they hate walking their dog because it’s become such a problem.

They’re busy. They have kids, work, meetings, sports, errands, and a million other things going on. They don’t have 45 minutes to go two blocks because their dog wants to stop and sniff everything along the way.

That’s why I teach heel.

Heel means walk calmly at my side. Don’t pull. Don’t stop every few feet. Don’t drag me toward every dog, person, animal, or smell.

That doesn’t mean my dogs don’t get freedom.

When I say “free,” they can sniff, explore, run around, and be a dog. There’s a time for freedom, and there’s a time for walking.

When we’re walking, we’re walking.

And one of the best parts of my job is hearing from clients after training telling me how much they actually enjoy walking their dog now.

What used to be stressful becomes something they look forward to.

If you love letting your dog stop and sniff everything on every walk, good on you. My content probably isn’t for you.

It’s for the people who are frustrated with their walks and want a dog they can actually enjoy walking with.

It’s for people who want the best trained dog in the neighborhood.

Board and trains give my clients the best long-term results.

I didn’t always only offer board and trains.

I used to do private lessons. I used to do daily training programs. But over time, I realized the biggest issue wasn’t teaching the dog — it was getting people to consistently do the homework between sessions.

And when the homework doesn’t get done, the dog never becomes as reliable as I know they can be.

So I changed the way I train, even though it meant losing business.

Now you give me Dog A.

I do the training, build the habits, create the structure, and give you back Dog B — a dog that actually understands what’s expected of them.

Then I teach you how to handle and maintain that trained dog when they go home.

Bonus: I don’t use treats. All of my training is done with praise only.

My goal isn’t to sell you the easiest program.

My goal is to give you the best dog possible.

Most people unclip the leash and hope their dog comes back.

I don’t hope. I teach it step by step.

Step 1: Start on a 6-foot leash. The dog learns exactly what “come” means: come all the way to me and sit directly in front of me.

Step 2: Progress to a 20–30 foot long leash. Same exact expectation, just from farther away. I call once, the dog comes all the way back and sits in front of me.

Step 3: Once the dog fully understands the command and has proven it from a distance, we finally go off leash.

By that point, I’m not wondering if the dog will come back. I call them once, they come back on the first command, sit in front of me, and the reward is praise—not treats.

That’s how I build reliable off-leash recall.
