Delaware just made a powerful statement: horses are NOT food 🐴

In this state, selling or eating horse meat is flat-out illegal. The journey from stable to dinner plate? Completely blocked. It's a clear line drawn in the sand for animal protection.

Now, here's what makes this matter 💪 While many countries still slaughter horses for meat, Delaware is saying something different. Horses aren't livestock here—they're companions. They're the animals we ride, bond with, and trust. By banning both sales AND consumption, the state removes the economic incentive. No legal market means no profitable operation.

But let's be honest 🤔 This isn't the whole story. Horses can still be shipped out of state where slaughter remains legal. So while Delaware protects its own, the larger system persists beyond its borders.

Update 4/27/26 well, I made plans with a hauler to go get this pony.This week over a thousand dollars from new york to eastern p a and I was preparing the owner for what they needed to do.Which was simply write an email with a surrender letter, and they asked me to hold off for a week.Because they had someone who might be interested in the horse that I told her to put down humanely and the pony and I said, I can't wait a week.I've already committed to you and to the horse.Unfortunately, this is one of those things that it didn't work out for the horse. When you have a rescue that's committed and paying for the transport
Your best bet is to continue forward with the plan.

Estimated 18-20 12hh hackney pony cross gelding. He is said to ride but I can’t confirm. He can be skittish around people he doesn’t trust but once he trusts you he’s an in your pocket type. I do not know his history, I suspect he is harness broke as well. Utd on coggins and farrier
