Your Groomer Isn’t Charging Too Much. You Underestimate What It Takes to Groom Your Dog Well.
Grooming prices are finally starting to move.
For decades, this industry has been notoriously slow to price itself like the skilled profession it actually is. And now that more groomers are charging according to their experience, education, overhead, physical labor, and level of care, some clients are experiencing sticker shock.
But you’re not just paying for a haircut.
You’re paying for someone who recognizes when your dog is uncomfortable. Who understands behavior and handling. Who notices the lump you didn’t know was there. Who maintains thousands of dollars in professional equipment. Who continues their education. Who knows when a groom needs to be modified or stopped entirely for your dog’s wellbeing.
And often, the groomers raising their prices are the same groomers investing more into their education, equipment, handling skills, business practices, and client communication.
You’re also paying for time.
Personally, I believe there’s tremendous value in one-on-one grooming. One dog. One groomer. Individual attention instead of your dog spending hours cycling through a busy salon.
Can you find grooming for less?
Absolutely.
There will always be higher-volume salons, faster turnaround, fewer extras, and more basic levels of service. There is nothing wrong with choosing what fits your budget.
But compare like with like.
You cannot purchase one level of service and expect another.
You can absolutely choose McDonald’s prices.
Just don’t get pi**ed when nobody brings out the T-bone.
