Thank you to Kristin for stepping in and caring for Izzy this weekend while her regular foster was out of town. Temporary fosters make it possible for our foster families to take a break without disrupting the care their dogs depend on.
Izzy is one of the dogs from the dogfighting case. She may be safe in a foster home, but she is still carrying the effects of everything she experienced before reaching us. She remains extremely shut down, is not walking on a leash, and has to be carried from place to place.
Her current foster has given Izzy the time and space she needed to begin decompressing while also caring for another foster dog. Foster homes are temporary, and Izzy now needs a placement that matches the level of support she requires.
We are looking for an experienced foster who understands shut-down dogs and can provide the focused, one-on-one training Izzy needs to move forward. A confident resident dog is also important because she looks to other dogs for reassurance and guidance.
This is not about Izzy failing in her foster home. It is about recognizing what she needs and finding the person best equipped to give it to her.
Izzy needs patience, structure, consistency, and time. Most importantly, she needs someone willing to look beyond her fear and help her learn how to live.
