Timberwolf Pet Food Timberwolf, Pet Food the Way Nature Intended.

Timberwolf formulas closely resemble the diet of wild canids and felines, and contain a profusion of unique and distinct ingredients rarely found in most pet foods. Our philosophy dictates high levels of animal proteins, a rich balance of essential fatty acids, herbs, fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts faithfully formulated with the nutritional requirements of your pets. All of our formulas are completely balanced as a stand-alone diet, but are designed for the option of adding your own Biologically Appropriate Raw Foods if preferred. We dedicate ourselves to the highest quality of ingredients and the best whole nutrition and the use of herbs, seeds and unrefined oils.

Eric's nutrition perspective has helped shape Timberwolf since 1996. His background in animal behavior and biology leads to a practical starting point: understand the animal, read the complete label, and avoid treating one front-of-bag number as the whole decision.

Individual medical decisions should always stay with your veterinarian.

Black Forest® Legends begins with venison meal and lists 35% minimum crude protein, 17% minimum crude fat, and 477 kcal per cup. Salmon meal, lamb, garbanzo beans, and salmon follow the lead ingredient.

The complete recipe also contains chicken fat, so we do not describe Black Forest® as chicken-free. This is exactly why the entire ingredient list matters when a specific ingredient affects recipe fit.

Ingredient imagery is a creative representation and is not shown in formulation proportions.

Timberwolf's five dog recipes do not share one interchangeable ingredient deck.

Wild & Natural® leads with chicken meal. Ocean Blue® leads with herring meal. Black Forest® leads with venison meal. Dakota leads with buffalo meal. Wilderness leads with lamb meal. Crude-protein minimums range from 34% to 40%, while calories per cup and the rest of the ingredients also differ.

Use the recipe name as a starting point. Use the complete label to decide what belongs in the conversation.

Every Timberwolf dog recipe includes the same seven named herbs: coriander, turmeric, basil, ginger, fenugreek, peppermint, and thyme.

We describe the blend for what it is—a visible part of the ingredient deck and Timberwolf's formulation philosophy. We do not present it as diagnosing, treating, or curing a condition.

The next time you pick up a bag, turn it over and verify the blend on the label.

A gradual transition is simple: begin with about 25% new food, move to 50%, then 75%, and reach 100% when your dog is ready. Each stage can span several meals, and some dogs may need a slower schedule.

Use the bag feeding guide as a starting point rather than a universal prescription. Age, size, activity, current intake, and medical history can change the plan, so involve your veterinarian when needed.

Save this before your next food change.

Ocean Blue® Legends starts with herring meal, whitefish meal, salmon, and salmon meal. The guaranteed analysis lists 36% minimum crude protein and 16% minimum crude fat, while the calorie statement lists 470 kcal per cup.

Those values are most useful together. Read the complete production label when comparing the recipe for your dog, and remember that the adequacy statement excludes growth of large-size dogs—70 pounds or more as an adult.

The first five ingredients are a practical place to begin because ingredients are listed by weight before cooking. They can show which animal sources lead the recipe and whether an ingredient important to your dog appears early.

But ingredient number five is not a finish line. Continue through the full list, then connect it to the guaranteed analysis, calories per cup, adequacy statement, and feeding guide.

What is the first thing you check on a pet-food label?

09/05/2026

The standard, in twelve silent seconds. Timberwolf dog recipes run 34–40% minimum crude protein; our two high-protein cat recipes — Wild & Natural® and Ocean Blue® — run 50%. Meat comes first, and the label proves it.
