Galveston Firefighters Association is partnering with Galveston Island Humane Society to bring you the 2027 Galveston Firefighters Calendar, featuring Galveston’s own firefighters and adoptable animals!

08/08/2026

Consider this your first official sneak peek at the 2027 Heroes & Hounds Calendar, featuring our own John Garcia alongside a future adoptable heartbreaker from the Galveston Island Humane Society. 🐱🔥

Huge thanks to John for being a good sport, GIHS Executive Director Kristen for helping wrangle the talent, and Eye Candy Media for absolutely knocking this shoot out of the park. 📸

The 2027 calendar will once again bring together Galveston firefighters and GIHS shelter pets to raise funds and awareness for animals in need in our community.

And this is just the teaser.

We’ve got a whole calendar to fill. 😏🔥🐾

Meet Devin Shoemaker 🔥🔥

For the past four years, Devin has proudly served with the Galveston Fire Department. Before becoming a firefighter, he earned degrees in Forestry and Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences from Texas A&M, a path that reflects his lifelong appreciation for the outdoors.

When he's off duty, you'll find him working out, spending time in nature, or relaxing around a campfire with friends.

Devin also shares his home with two German Shorthaired Pointers, Ringo and Watson. Watson was originally meant to be a temporary medical foster while receiving care for epilepsy, but it didn't take long for him to become a permanent member of the family.

Meet Zeferino Peña! 🐾❤️‍🔥

For nearly two years, Zeferino has proudly served with the Galveston Fire Department. When he's not answering the call, you'll likely find him in the gym, enjoying the outdoors, or spending quality time with the people who matter most, his family.

At home, he's kept company by a long-haired dapple dachshund who undoubtedly keeps life entertaining.

Fun fact: Every hero has their kryptonite, and Zeferino's? Owls. 🦉

🐾 Stay tuned as we continue introducing the firefighters participating in this year's Heroes & Hounds calendar, where local heroes are helping raise lifesaving funds for the animals at Galveston Island Humane Society.

🔥 Meet Nick Notarnicola 🔥

For the past three years, Nick has proudly served with the Galveston Fire Department. When he's not on shift, you'll find him training for his next challenge, whether that's a CrossFit competition, a jiu-jitsu tournament, a HYROX race, or simply trying to keep up with his three kids' packed schedules.

Nick shares his home with a rescued Rottweiler and a family that keeps life anything but boring. Between youth sports, family trips, fishing adventures, and whatever new project his wife has volunteered "them" for next, there's rarely a dull moment. (We love a supportive partner!)

🐾 Stay tuned as we continue introducing the firefighters participating in this year's Heroes & Hounds calendar, benefiting the animals of Galveston Island Humane Society.

🔥🐾 Meet Brody, a participant in our upcoming 2027 Heroes & Hounds calendar!

Competitive, active, and a major dog lover, Brody is winning at life!

He's been with the Galveston Fire Department for 2 years, enjoys working with his hands, shares his home with three dogs, and once served as goaltender for Boise State University.

We're proud to have him helping raise awareness for the shelter pets who are waiting for their own team to cheer them on, and we hope he's proud too.❤️🐾

🎸🐾 What do an Australian Shepherd, a guitar, and a galaxy far, far away have in common? Meet Brennon Echterling.

Brennon has been with the Galveston Fire Department for 11 months and spends his free time working on cars, hanging out with his Australian Shepherd, Bandit, and embracing what he describes as an "unhealthy obsession" with The Mandalorian.

As if that wasn't enough, Brennon also taught himself how to play guitar, a skill that proves he's always up for learning something new.

We're grateful to have Brennon helping us shine a spotlight on the shelter pets who are still waiting for their own happy endings. ❤️🐾

Help us welcome Brennon to the Heroes & Hounds family in the comments below!

Hero, Family-Man, Dog-Dad: Meet Keegan Smith🔥🐾❤️‍🔥

Keegan has proudly served with the Galveston Fire Department for 6 years. When he's not on duty, he enjoys traveling and spending time with his family.

The four-legged friend featured in Keegan's photo has a special story of their own. She was adopted from a rescue, proving that second chances can change lives for both pets and people.

We're excited to have Keegan helping us raise awareness and support for the homeless pets in our community. Be sure to show him some love (and your rescue pets) in the comments! 🔥❤️🐾
