I found him on the road. All alone, tiny, sitting by the side as if waiting for something… or someone. Cars passed him by, not stopping. But he didn’t move. He just sat there, still.
I slowed down. Pulled over. Got out. He looked right at me, those big eyes calm, curious, tired.
He didn’t run. He didn’t bark. He simply walked toward me, like he knew — finally — someone had come for him.
I picked him up. He was so light, barely more than a breath.
He fell asleep on the passenger seat, curled into himself like he’d been holding his breath for days.
I don’t know where he came from. But I do know this: from now on, he’ll never be alone again.
