Candy was the 1st to go in for her annual because she has been experiencing breathing episodes most recently. Cost = $397.
We discussed Frenchie nose surgery, medically known as stenotic nares surgery, a corrective procedure designed to widen narrowed, pinched nostrils in French Bulldogs to improve their breathing. This surgery is a core treatment for Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS), an anatomical condition common in short-snouted breeds where compressed nasal tissue severely limits oxygen intake. Because Frenchies face increased risks under general anesthesia due to their compromised airways, veterinarians strongly recommend combining the nose surgery with procedures like:
Elongated Soft Palate Resection: Trimming excess tissue hanging down at the back of the throat that blocks the trachea.
Laryngeal Saccule Excision: Removing everted tissue pouches inside the voice box caused by constant labored breathing.
The cost estimate is $550 - $4500 and I think it would be in Candy’s best interest to get the recommended specialist referral to ensure Candy gets everything done in one surgery. Candy’s surgery is also is dependent upon raising the funds needed to get her surgery. If Candy just needs the nares surgery, Dr. Lundeen can do that surgery here.
Also, has anyone ever had these procedures/surgery’s done and if so could you please share your experience.
Candy & grumpy kitty are my first, flat faced fosters. It’s heartbreaking watching them struggle so much to breathe, the sneezing, constant face cleaning and worry making sure to keep them cool so they don’t overheat.
Please share & donate if you are able…we sure didn’t see this one coming, sigh.
