Our son Mateo loves dogs, he’s been around them since being in the womb! But more than loving dogs, he has learned that he needs to establish boundaries, and have a relationship of respect. This means that he respects the dog’s space when he is eating or chewing on a toy, and he also lets the dog know to respect his personal space. Mateo has learned to claim his space and doesn’t let dogs approach without being called. He also is learning to lead the dog on walks and to tell them what he wants them to do.
When a family has small children it is import at to always supervise interactions between the dogs and the kids. But most importantly, establish clear boundaries and expectations for all. This helps create a harmonious relationship with our dogs!
