Finnegan entered my life in June 2018 and left his earthly form today 5/31/26. Finnegan was surrendered to the shelter I worked at by his 3rd home and was said to be between 7 and 9 years of age. His mouth was horribly infected and
necesitated the extraction of all but 6 teeth. I brought him home to foster but his resemblance to my beloved Krishna ensured he had found his forever home.
Finnegan was as fierce and mighty as he was loving, playful, adventurous and brave. He loved to go hiking, lick you obsessively and terrorize the bigger dogs. He was one thousand pounds of presence in a 5.6 lb body. Finnegan adored kids, his canine and feline family, his human friends and me. He would bark non-stop if I was on the other side of the fence, until I let him out. Finnegan loved to eat and would bark and spin if his meals and treats weren't served on time.
Over the last 4 years Finnegan developed a plethora of health issues. His luxating patellas worsened and he had arthritis. His once short, sleek and dark coat became thick, coarse and light with areas of hair loss due to a very hard to manage case of Cushings disease. He was losing his eyesight and hearing. In October 2025 he was hospitalized for 7 days due to acute kidney failure which he survived and his kidneys returned to normal. Finnegan's biggest challenge was horrible airway disease due to collapsing trachea and bronchioles with bronchomalacia. He developed a worsening chronic cough and was prone to infections. Last night he developed respiratory distress and Sue D'Agostino and I took him to the ER clinic where he was diagnosed with pneumonia and placed in oxygen. Despite the best treatment he got significantly worse this morning and I asked that he be relieved of his suffering.
The mighty Fin is now reunited with all his friends who have passed before him. His legs are strong, his coat is perfect and most importantly he can breathe again. I love you sweet Finnegan, my friend, son, brother, teacher and beloved chihuahua. Rest easy now sweet boy, until we meet again. I love you and miss you more than can be expressed. Namaste beautiful boy.
