Morning shenanigans with the fosters before we head out for trapping day! Your donations of food, toys, cleaners, and more food are much appreciated!! These little ones eat 3 times a day and are growing every day!

Trapping day! The last Wednesday of the month our volunteers are going out to fill 5 spots allotted to us monthly by Operation Community Cats. Through your donation and support, we trap community cats, fix them, tip their ears, hold them for the recommended recovery time, then release back to their home.

Thank you!

🐾 A Little Stray Haven Update + A Call for Help 🐾

We wanted to give our supporters a quick update on what we’ve been up to this summer!

Through our partnership with Operation Community Cats, we participate in monthly spay/neuter clinics. Stray Haven receives 5 spots each month to help fix community cats who have no one caring for them. ❤️

On the weeks we don’t have clinic spots, we’ve been working alongside OCC to help community members trap the cats they’ve made appointments for. Trapping can be tricky, so we’re happy to loan traps, share our experience, and help people safely get cats to their appointments.

🐱 But despite our best efforts to focus on TNR, we’ve still ended up helping two sets of kittens this summer. We even found a venue to place them at to help adoptions go quicker! 🥰

Most recently, we were contacted by an elderly woman with 5 kittens living in front of her home. She’s been tripping over them and is worried about their wellbeing—and her own safety.

We want to help, but our resources are stretched to the limit. So we’re asking our community for a little help.

💙 We’re currently in need of:

🧼 Rescue disinfectant — for traps, cages & equipment
🫧 Enzyme cleaner — for trap liners, blankets & bedding
🐱 Wet & dry kitten food
🐾 Adult wet & dry cat food — for the community cats we trap
🩺 Donations directly to Eastern Oregon Animal Health so the vetting of the kittens.
💰 We also accept monetary donations, but we know people like to know exactly where there money is going.

Our Amazon wish list is pinned, but we can help find the specific item you’d like to donate.

Any donation, big or small, helps us continue saying “yes” when a community cat needs us. ❤️

And if you or someone you know needs help getting feral or stray cats fixed, please reach out to Operation Community Cats. If you need help with trapping, let them know! Volunteers like us are happy to help with traps, advice, and hands-on trapping.

Together, we can get more cats fixed and help reduce the number of unwanted kittens in our communities. 🐾

Thank you for supporting Stray Haven Animal Alliance! ❤️

Meet Nifty! 🐾✨

Look at this gorgeous 3-month-old calico girl! Nifty’s journey hasn't been the easiest, but she is officially healed, thriving, and ready to steal your heart (and your favorite spot on the couch).

💖 Her Story
While our main focus at Stray Haven Animal Alliance is TNR, sometimes we come across a little soul we simply can't leave behind. Nifty was found as a tiny kitten alongside her mama, battling a rough Upper Respiratory Infection (URI) and a UTI.
After some serious TLC, rounds of antibiotics, and lots of cozy foster care, Nifty is 100% healed, spayed, and ready for her happily ever after!

📋 The Details
* Age: 3 Months
* Coloring: Classic Calico
* Health: Spayed, fully vaccinated, and totally recovered!
* Personality: Sweet, resilient, and ready for love.
* Adoption Fee: $40

🏠 Ready to Adopt?

We’re still looking to find Leonard’s best home. He is a really good boy. He is litter box trained, he is playful, he gets along with people, cats, and dogs really well. He’s a sweet boy who likes pets, cuddles, and he’s talkative.

He is allergic to flea salvia so he needs to be on flea and tick prevention every month.

Do you think you can give him a good home? Or know anyone who can? He’s a great boy and would make a great addition to a family.

Please let us know if you’re interested in learning more about our boy Lenny!! You know if we could we’d keep him, but then we’d have to say no to the next foster. We know they’re always be another kitty in need, so we have to make the hard decisions. We love him so so much.

“Why don’t we just cull the cats?”

Yesterday’s post about our experience with TNR in Medicine Hat sparked this question more than once.

It’s understandable.

At first glance, removing cats sounds faster and cheaper than volunteers trapping, sterilizing and returning them.

But it isn’t.

A municipal cull isn’t someone driving around with a r***e. Community cats are domestic animals. A municipality would still need people to trap them, transport them, house them, involve veterinarians and process every single cat.

That costs money.

Then comes the biggest problem.

The vacuum effect.

Even if you remove almost every cat, it only takes a few that were missed, abandoned, or that move in from nearby areas to start the cycle all over again.

Food and shelter are still there.

The cats are gone.

Nature fills the gap.

Now taxpayers are paying to remove cats again.

TNR works because it changes one thing that a cull doesn’t.

It stops reproduction.

Even if a few cats are missed, they are surrounded by sterilized cats that aren’t producing litter after litter. As more cats are fixed, fewer kittens are born, shelter intake drops, nuisance complaints decrease, and the population naturally declines over time.

That is why communities around the world use TNR.

Not because it’s the easiest.

Not because it’s the cheapest today.

Because it’s the least expensive way to solve the problem for tomorrow.

We’ve seen it ourselves.

We’ve watched colonies shrink.

We’ve watched kittens stop being born.

We’ve watched communities go from dozens of cats to just a handful over a few years.

That’s what success looks like.

It isn’t about removing every cat.

It’s about making sure there are no new kittens to replace them.

Turn down the tap, not buy more mops.

🐾 Follow along to see how TNR is making a difference across Southeast Alberta.
