Emerald and Cody are fresh out of the vet after their spay and doing great! Bummer to have them in the house for 5-10 days. Who knows the secret to ā€œkeeping cats quietā€ after surgery? Because it’s never been cracked I can assure you šŸ˜† Wolf is very concerned that he can’t find his mom and sister outside so hopefully he figures out the back screen where they can chat with each other.

This has been the coolest project we have never done before!

We hired a local gentleman to take down 4 very tall pine trees, and the electric company took 2 oak trees down for us.

We had the logs cut to 102ā€ long and hired a sawyer who has a mobile sawmill. It’s been fascinating to watch. So many sizes and possibilities, even the scrap is useable.

Another portion, a MUCH dirtier portion. Yuck. It’s currently on its third soak with soap. It may need a few more.

The first year we ate chicken we raised was the first year in my whole life I refused to eat the skin.

I had never thought about where food came from before highschool. Going to an Agricultural highschool will certainly fix those problems, that’s for sure.

In that school (back then) we didn’t have meat chickens or even chickens! But it became part of my everyday that I was meeting people who were growing up on working farms.

Still I was eating the skin and it was a favorite part for me!

The year we butchered our own… was the year I decided I don’t need a plucker because we are taking it all off šŸ˜† skin is a no go for me.

I don’t eat cow tongue. Don’t ask me too. I haven’t braved organ meat that isn’t freeze dried and sprinkled in like seasoning. I will not under any circumstance entertain anything pickled either.

I have limits even though I love raising my own food. I’m not a nose to tail gal. I’m a ā€œI’ll take this and the rest will feed the dogs real wellā€ kinda gal.

The goat meat… dogs. Fed them superbly for four months! I still think about a herd of meat goats but I STILL don’t like them enough to feed them to my dogs 🫣

What about you?

What are your limits on the meat you raise?

Pretty exciting!
I’m glad I can take this a small batch at a time because wow this toddler…
I’m not sure how I’ll know if it felted but…let’s pray it didn’t šŸ˜… it’s been a while since I’ve done all this!
We are ✨HOPING✨to offer some small fiber bags at our farm stand this summer. šŸ¤ž

Instead of treating every ā€˜weed’ like a problem, we’re teaching the kids which plants can feed the animals right here in the back yard. 🌱

Foraging for rabbits means gathering safe wild plants and grasses to add variety and enrichment to their diet.

Sometimes even plopping his cage out in the yard on the grass while supervised.

So much out there for him to munch on!

We’ve seen at least two chicks under her! Praise!! It’s been cold so she hasn’t moved and maybe she’s waiting on other eggs.

I don’t actually think we are going to bug her and make her adopt more chicks. She’s pretty volatile honestly. So I’m going to partition the brooder so the other littles can have more space (and get out of my house).
