Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno (LRRF) is a no kill non-profit 501(c)3, that is 100% foster based (we do not have a facility).

We rescue abandoned, homeless and neglected Labradors from all over central California and beyond. We wish to end suffering and promote the welfare of labs and lab mixes through direct action and education. We provide each dog with a stable environment, love, companionship, food and veterinary care until a qualified, loving forever home is found. Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno believes that all companion animals should be treated with dignity, compassion and kindness.

Sapphire - Black female mix, 7 months, 45 lbs.

Meet Sapphire, a true gemstone representing loyalty and love. Sapphire is a beautiful 7-month-old Labrador mix who is learning that the world can be a safe and wonderful place.

Sapphire was sadly dumped at a shelter, and was on the euthanize list until a LRRF stepped in to give her a second chance at life. She came into foster care carrying a lot of uncertainty about people. She is a very shy girl who doesn’t immediately trust humans, so she’ll need a patient adopter who understands that trust takes time. But once Sapphire decides you’re her person, you’ll discover a sweet, affectionate girl who absolutely loves to cuddle.

One of Sapphire’s favorite things is playing with other dogs. She enjoys canine companionship and would love a home where she can have a confident, playful dog friend to help show her the ropes. She also loves her toys and is always happiest when she has something fun to do.

Sapphire walks well on leash and is already showing what a wonderful companion she can become. Like many young puppies, she is still learning what belongs in her mouth. Shoes, remotes, and other household treasures can look like pretty tempting chew toys to her, so she’ll need continued guidance, appropriate chew toys, and a little puppy-proofing while she learns.

Sapphire isn’t looking for someone to rush her. She’s looking for someone willing to let her come out of her shell at her own pace. With patience, consistency, and lots of love, this shy little girl has the potential to blossom into an incredibly loyal and loving companion.

💔 Remembering Walter

Sometimes a dog comes into rescue and, deep down, you know they may not be with us for very long. Especially the older, long-neglected dogs—the backyard ornaments who never really had a home to begin with. They simply existed. They were fed when someone remembered, and otherwise were left to get by.

Walter came into Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno on October 22, 2025, at about 12 years old and in horrible shape.

We believe senior dogs deserve our very best shot at comfort, dignity, and love. So we take care of their medical needs, give them a soft place to land, and, most importantly, give them the opportunity to finally experience what they should have known all along—a home where they belong.

It took Walter months to truly settle in. But slowly, he began to feel safe. He became comfortable. He learned that he was loved.

Walter became a hospice dog with one of our wonderful fosters Ruth. We knew his time might be short, but that didn't make the time he had any less important. For the first time in his life, Walter had a home. He had a family. He belonged.

And today, September 2, 2026, we said goodbye to our dear Walter.

He was the best boy. He got along with all of his foster family's dogs and welcomed the incoming and outgoing foster dogs who passed through his home. He never asked for much. Just a soft place to rest, a little kindness, and to be loved.

And that is exactly what he received.

We cannot change the years Walter lost. We cannot give him back the life he should have had. But we can be grateful that the last chapter of his life was filled with comfort, dignity, safety, and love.

Dogs live in the present. Walter didn't dwell on what came before. He simply learned that he was finally home.

Nico – Yellow Male, 6 months, 45 lbs.

Meet Nico—45 pounds of cuddly yellow glitter! ✨💛

Nico came to us with his three sisters, as you probably guessed… strays. All four arrived skin and bones and, understandably, a little unsure of humans. Thankfully, it didn’t take long for Nico and his sisters to settle in, discover that people are pretty wonderful, and start acting like the happy, goofy puppies they are.

Nico is fully potty trained and uses the doggy door like a pro. He’s still working on his leash skills, but in every other respect, he is a very typical, lovable 6-month-old Labrador.

He loves playing with his foster siblings, LOVES the water, and fetch is quickly becoming one of his favorite games.

Nico has not been around children or cats in his foster home, so we don’t know how he would do with either. As with any young dog, proper introductions, supervision, patience, and giving everyone time to adjust are important.

What Nico really needs is a family who understands that 6 months is still very much puppyhood. Everything is new, and he will need some patience, guidance, consistency, and confidence-building as he continues to learn about the world.

Give him those things, and we have no doubt this sweet boy is going to shine. 🌟

Big Mack Update! 9-1-26❤️🐾

Big Mack is relaxing today after his neuter, ear flush, cleaning and packing. He also had 13 teeth removed, some of which were so bad they had exposed nerves. Poor guy! 💔

He is doing well and getting plenty of rest. Today will probably be the toughest day, but every day from here should get a little better. ❤️

After everything this sweet boy has endured, he deserves nothing but comfort, love and some seriously good days ahead.

❤️ A HUGE THANK YOU — AND AN UPDATE ON OUR 11 HOARDING DOGS ❤️

We want to get the word out and, most importantly, thank each and every one of you who donated, shared, sent good thoughts, and prayed for our 11 dogs from the hoarding situation. (previous post is below)

The outpouring of support has been absolutely phenomenal, and we simply cannot express our gratitude enough. ❤️ All 11 dogs are now safely in different rescue foster homes where they are being given something they have likely never had enough of — time, patience, good food, medical care, and a soft place to land.

They are all decompressing and are in various stages of being vetted. Our older dogs are, of course, our biggest concern. They have been neglected for far too long, and there is much to uncover and address.

None of this could happen without our incredibly generous donors and supporters. You have made it possible for us to say YES to these dogs, and for that, we are incredibly thankful. ❤️

We will begin sharing individual updates as each dog receives the care they need and we learn more about their health and personalities.

🖤 BIG MACK UPDATE — aka MACK ATTACK ;-) ❤️

When Big Mack arrived, he was completely morose. He could hardly walk and was basically just a big, black speed bump laying on the hard tile. It was heartbreaking to see.

His ears were horrifically infected — so swollen and closed off that he couldn't hear a thing. Our vet initially thought he might be completely deaf. Twice-a-day ear drops were definitely NOT on his list of favorite things, but after just a few days, we started noticing something amazing...

Mack could actually hear a little! 🥹❤️

He has also received several medicated baths, and slowly but surely, we're seeing that big boy come back to life. And despite everything he's been through, Mack has been the perfect houseguest. He gets along with everyone in his foster home and truly is the bestest boy.

And his tail?

IT NEVER STOPS WAGGING. ❤️

He has gone from barely moving to following his foster around the house — and then, of course, plopping himself down into full speed-bump mode whenever he decides he's done. 😂

Today is a BIG day for our BIG boy because Mack is going to be neutered. While he is under anesthesia, the veterinary team will also be able to get a much better look at those poor ears, see what is happening inside, and begin the appropriate treatment. We'll have his teeth checked as well, although we suspect those may need to be addressed again at a later date.

It is truly amazing what a little time, care, medication, good food and a soft place to land can do.

Mack is starting to discover that maybe — just maybe — life can be pretty darn good. ❤️

And we are going to make sure he gets to experience the good life he should have had all along.

Stay tuned for updates on Mack and the rest of our 11. We have a long road ahead, but they are finally on that road with people who care. 🐾❤️

Meet Elsa: a Labrador Worth Melting For!

Elsa is a sweet, snowy white, labrador mix who is ready to find a place where she truly belongs! Much like her Frozen namesake, Elsa is a little shy and timid at first. She’s still learning how to use her dog magic and doesn't quite understand this whole new world of toys, love, safety and happily ever afters. But underneath that cautious exterior is an enchanting princess who simply wants to be loved. Once she feels safe, Elsa’s personality begins to shine like fresh snow sparkling in the sunlight.

For the first time in forever (possibly ever), Elsa is learning how exciting and fun life can be with a family. She loves toys and is very excited to play and cuddle. She will happily snuggle up for a warm hug. Watching her play is pure magic! She doesn't quite understand all of the enchanted objects in the house, like the washing machine or the Roomba, but she is very accepting of them!

Despite her cautious nature, Elsa has made a wild band of characters her friends. While she has not met a reindeer, she is friends with big dogs, small dogs, cats and even a pig! She is forever gentle with the goofy puppy in the house who is a fraction of her size.

Elsa has learned to make an indoor crate her ice palace. She stays in there when her humans are out of the house as well as at night. She is also house trained. Basic obedience skills are improving daily and she is very willing to learn.

Elsa would do best in a patient home that will guide her gently as she learns that humans are kind and the world isn't so scary.

River has found her forever family in Agoura Hills and it’s a perfect fit. When River came to LRRF she had no socialization skills. Her fosters were determined to change that and took her to as many places as possible to meet new people (even better, new people who gave treats!). When meeting her family, it didn’t take long before she was exploring the yard with her new 4 legged sibling. Her new family even had her name tag ready. She will be living her best life with an active retired couple and their son. This is a great example of the wonderful work our LRRF fosters do to make these outcomes possible. 🚨 AT RISK — URGENT COURTESY POST FOR CHANCE 🚨

💔 Chance has been failed by so many humans, and it is heartbreaking.

Now, through no fault of his own, Chance’s time is up. He is red listed at Fresno Animal Center.

CHANCE IS JUST A BABY. 😭💔 He should not be out of time. He should not be paying the price for the failures of the people who came before him.

We are absolutely PACKED right now after taking in the recent hoarding case, and we are juggling like crazy trying to keep up with the dogs already in our care. We simply cannot take Chance into our rescue at this time.

But that does NOT mean we are going to stay quiet while he sits in the shelter waiting for his final day.

Lacey – Yellow female, 1 year, 60 lbs.

Meet Lacey, a one-year-old yellow Lab mix of approx. 60 pounds. Lacey has a gentle heart and a serious talent for snuggling! This quiet, sweet girl isn’t much of a licker—she prefers to show her love by curling up beside you for a cozy cuddle. She gravitates towards chew toys and plays tug-o-war with her foster siblings. Other amazing built-in traits of Lacey are:

💕 friendly with children
💕 friendly with other family dogs
💕 house trained
💕sleeps peacefully in crate

Lacey is still learning how to walk nicely on a leash, so she’ll need someone patient who can continue her leash work. Her feelings about cats are still a mystery, but her affectionate personality is impossible to miss.

Lacey came to us from a very small, rural shelter that receives little to no foot traffic. Thankfully, we heard about her situation just in the nick of time and were able to step in before it was too late.
