The Central Valley may be enjoying good weather right now—but preparedness happens before conditions become dangerous.

National Preparedness Month continues - making this a good time to review what you will do when a Red Flag Warning is issued.

Red Flag Warnings signal dangerous weather conditions that can contribute to extreme wildfire behavior. Monitor local alerts, follow guidance from emergency officials, and be prepared to act quickly if conditions change. Evacuating early before evacuation orders is recommended to avoid being trapped.

When a Red Flag Warning is issued, every minute matters.

⚾ THANK YOU to the Fresno Grizzlies for inviting CCADT to participate in their DC/Community Outreach Event!

Every community outreach invitation gives us another opportunity to meet families, share animal disaster preparedness information, and help people understand how planning ahead can protect both human and animal lives.

These connections matter. Prepared communities begin with informed communities.

Also, thank you to CCADT volunteers, Ruth Eiermann, Donna Harris-Gonzales, Annette Omachi, and Julie Childs for staffing our informational booth!

SEPTEMBER 11, 2001
Twenty-five years ago, our nation witnessed unimaginable loss — and extraordinary courage.

On September 11, 2001, first responders ran toward danger. Strangers helped strangers. Communities came together. Ordinary people answered an extraordinary call to serve.

That spirit still matters.

At CCADT, we believe one of the most meaningful ways to honor those we lost is to carry forward the values we witnessed that day: service, compassion, preparedness, courage, and helping others when they need us most.

For younger generations who know September 11 only through photographs, stories, and history books, we have a responsibility to keep those lessons alive.

Because Never Forget is not only about remembering the past.

It is about deciding what kind of people we will be in the future.

Today, the Central California Animal Disaster Team remembers and honors all who were lost, all who served, and all whose lives were forever changed.

We remember. We serve. We carry their legacy forward.

Today, we honor the people whose work keeps communities moving — including those whose jobs don’t always stop for weekends or holidays.

First Responders. Animal control officers. Emergency managers. Utility crews. Veterinary Teams. Shelter Staff and the many others who step forward when their communities need them most.

At CCADT, we’re especially grateful for our volunteers, who give their own time to train, prepare, and respond when animals and their families are impacted by disasters in our Central Valley.

However you’re spending today, we hope your Labor Day brings a little time to recharge, enjoy the people and animals you love, and appreciate the many hands that make a community stronger.

Happy Labor Day from the Central California Animal Disaster Team! 🇺🇸 ❤️🐾

September is National Preparedness Month. Practicing your preparedness plans starts at home, and that includes your pets.

When an emergency happens, stress and panic can make it hard to think clearly for us. Imagine how that feels for your animals. That is why having a plan and practicing it makes all the difference in a real disaster.

Here are some steps to get started:
✔️Plan where you will go. Identify at least two places outside your immediate area where you and your pets can go. Think about a family member’s house, a pet-friendly hotel, or a designated shelter that allows animals.
✔️✔️Write it down. Do not rely on memory. Use Ready.gov’s free fillable family plan and add a page for your animals with vet contact info, medications, diet notes, and a current photo of you together. This can help prove ownership if you are separated.
✔️✔️✔️Talk it through. Make sure every family member knows the plan, including kids. Decide who grabs the pet go-bag, who loads the carriers, and who drives.
✔️✔️✔️✔️Practice. Try it out when things are calm. Practice getting your cat into a carrier or your dog into the car. Doing this now makes it easier in a real emergency.

Taking time now, may help ensure you, your family and your animals are better prepared in case an emergency happens.

PREPARE & PRACTICE. If you had just 5 minutes to leave your home, would you know what to take?

A little preparation now can make a big difference during an emergency. Keep important documents, medications, emergency contacts, and go-bags ready—and make sure everyone in your family knows the plan. Taking time now to prepare can help your family respond quickly and reduce stress when every minute matters.

Your pets need a plan too. Have carriers, leashes, food, water, medications, and identification ready, and know how you’ll transport them safely.

Most importantly, practice your evacuation plan. Load your family, pets, and supplies into the vehicle you would actually use. A practice run can reveal what you’re missing, what doesn’t fit, and what needs to change.

Don’t just make a plan—practice it. When every minute matters, being prepared can help your whole family, including your pets, leave more quickly and safely.
