Pinky, the pinktoe! Pinky lives in tunnels of web that stretch across the top of his enclosure into a piece of bark and continues to ground level. I can usually see Pinky every day, but it's hard to get pictures through the web, so I don't post about him too much! Pinky does often remodel and expand his webs. He also destroys sections when he wants to clear out old debris. I've really enjoyed having this species (Avic avic), as he is fun to watch compared to some of my pet holes that I never see (Spook, the pumpkin patch...I'm referring to you).

Roswell and Tarot both molted this week. Tarot the ghost mantis has tons of green now. I'm super excited as I really wanted a green ghost.

100% stick, 0% visible. 🪵 Mantis or twig?

Willow, the African twig mantis (Popa spurca) takes camouflage to another level.

Do I have a favorite mantis? If you were to look at my phone photo album you would definitely say it's Roswell. I might have 50+ pics of her already and I just got her Saturday. This girl is a Timor shield mantis (R. kirbyi). What do I love about her? Well definitely her coloration (she is so photogenic), but she's also super active and uses every inch of her enclosure. She is very curious and is always watching me (and literally anything that moves). She is also an aggressive feeder, and it's super fun to tong feed her.

I actually had this species a little lower on my want list, but I am so glad I got her, as she is just a lot of fun to watch. I do have to say that all four mantis species that I currently own definitely have some awesome qualities too. They are all really unique! For those of you that keep mantids, what's your favorite species?

A little look at life on the forest floor with Sox my new Cyriocosmus aueri 🌿

C. aueri is a dwarf tarantula native to Peru. In the wild, it lives on the forest floor sheltering in leaf litter, and has been documented living in burrows as well.

I love seeing the silk webbing spread across the leaf litter. It's a detail you might miss if you don't look closely (especially since this little dude is teeny). 🕷️ Honestly, this is one of my favorite reasons to keep tarantulas...getting a glimpse of nature that I wouldn't normally get to see.

NARBC was super fun. It was great seeing everybody and there was so much variety this year! I was so excited to see all the inverts, and I feel like there were so many more tables! I got a super cute little Cyriocosmus aueri from 130 Exotics and three mantids from Crazy bugs and pods a budwing, a shield and a ghost. I also got lots more air plants as there was a good variety available. Amber Arachnid your table was so fun and thanks for showing us how your scorpions glow!

Who else went to Tinley today, and what did you get?
