Stay cool this week!
Overheating can be a serious and life-threatening emergency in this hot temperatures. Here is some great information from the AAEP about how to determine if it's safe to ride your horse in hot temps and what to do if your horse overheats.
For small animals, it's not much different. Pavement heats up quickly to significantly higher temps than the air temperature, and even a short-coated dog can develop heat stroke playing outside or having limited access to shade. Brachycephalic dogs- short-faced dogs such as Pugs, Frenchie's and Bulldogs are especially vulnerable to over-heating due to their anatomy, and can even over-heat on a relatively cool day.
