As a dog trainer, I believe that learning never stops. Every dog teaches me something new, and every challenge helps me grow.
With my newest partner, Mabel, I'm stepping into an entirely new world: Search and Rescue (SAR) training. While I'm experienced with building engagement, food motivation, handler focus, positioning, movement, and lure-based training, SAR requires a completely different approach.
Instead of focusing on food, we'll be developing prey drive, hunt drive, confidence, independence, and a true desire to search. It's a whole new skill set for both of us and I'm excited to dive in. I've been researching every day, studying from experienced SAR handlers, and I'll be working alongside a club to continue learning and growing.
This isn't a service I'll be offering through Lazy Paw Dog Training. This journey is about becoming a better trainer, continuing my education, and challenging myself to learn something completely new. More importantly, it's about gaining skills that could one day help people and serve my community. Every new skill I learn makes me a better trainer and deepens my understanding of the incredible things dogs are capable of.
Here's to never stopping learning, always pushing ourselves, and embracing new challenges. Follow along as Mabel and I begin our Search and Rescue journey!
