Well shame on me for not posting this cutie patootie a couple weeks ago when I clipped her.

🌈☀️ Evie’s clip appointment was not all rainbows and sunshine and that’s okay. I still think it’s important to talk about because sedation shouldn’t be frowned upon when utilized appropriately and for the right reasons.

✂️ When I first was scheduled to clip this little angel for her first time, I was told she has big opinions and the clip may or may not happen. We figured out really fast that it was in fact, not going to happen that day. 😅

💤 In order to make this experience a positive one for her, she needed a little help from the sedation station so, we rescheduled her for the following week when she could get her blue jello to send her off to dreamland.

😌 While she got a full dose this time around, it will be my goal to gradually wean her off of sedation on our following appointments. Some horses will still fight through oral sedation and that’s when we’ve got to bring in the real stuff.

🥰 Thankfully, this worked perfectly for Evie and we were able to get her feeling comfy in no time, and I got to keep all my teeth 😬.

I look forward to sharing Evie’s progress with clipping and can’t wait to see her enjoying it all on her own, sans sedation. 😉

Social media can be an exhausting place.

🎢 But, if you’ve ever experienced the ups and downs of this rollercoaster of a ride, you’ll know that the people who have the most to say, know little to nothing about the subject.

📚 I do my best to educate others but, unfortunately a lot of people don’t actually want to learn something. And that’s okay because none of that changes what I will continue to do. 😅

💫 On another note— what’s something you’ve always loved to do? Can you turn it into a career? You’d be surprised! Think outside the box a bit and you can go further than you’ve ever imagined.

Did you have questions about Houston’s haircut?

I created an FAQ video to answer the most commonly asked questions from his video.
I hope I covered everything!

🚔 Welcome Houston, to the FLPD!

🚨 Houston is beginning his career as a police horse with the Ft. Lauderdale Mounted Unit. He’s become quite popular now and needs his own FAQ post. 😅

👉🏻 Some top questions and answers from his earlier videos:

💇🏻Why did I take his mane off?
• This police department chooses a roached mane for their horses for a variety of reasons which include keeping the public’s hands off their horses in crowd control events to prevent injury to the horse or rider as well as keeping them extra cool and comfortable when working in south Florida’s tropical climate. It is primarily a safety measure.

🪰 Won’t he be miserable from flies now that he lost his mane?
• Nope! He still receives all normal fly control such as automatic fly spray systems, regular fly spray when out on the job and he can even wear a fly sheet/ fly boots/ and fly mask if he needs it. “Roaching” a horse’s mane is totally common and a normal part of horse care should the individual horse need it done. Removing the mane does not cause a swarm of flies to their neck, it does not inhibit them from keeping flies off of them and it causes them no discomfort or harm whatsoever. It is simply, just a haircut like you or your dog would get.

‼️ Why did you leave a little piece of mane at his withers?
• In the event an officer needs to dismount while out in the city, leaving a bit of hair on can help them get back on quickly from the ground. It’s left on for the event of emergency purposes as many of these horses are quite tall!

💈 Why did he get clipped?
• Clipping horses of all occupations from pasture puff to police horse to Grand Prix show horse, is for their health and comfort. Clipping helps horses regulate their body temperature more efficiently, reduces the occurrence of heat-related emergencies like overheating or the development of anhidrosis, it helps to prevent fungal and bacterial infections of the skin as well as providing many other health benefits.

✂️ What clipper did I use?
• I used my KMC+. This clipper never lets me down. You can get your own at wahlpro.com and use my code KRISTEN for 15% off!

🤔 I need to know though, what breeds do YOU think he’s crossed with?

I’ll do a breed reveal once they get the results. 😎
