A Personal Update from Lindsey 💔
I wanted to share something personal with our Qualified Pet Services family.
If you’ve been waiting a little longer than usual for a response from me over the past week, I sincerely apologize. Many of you know how much animals mean to me, and right now my own little girl, Aurelia, is fighting for her life.
On July 3rd, Aurelia, our 3.5 year-old Chihuahua, suffered multiple grand mal seizures and went into status epilepticus, meaning she experienced repeated seizures without recovering normally between them. She had to be rushed to the emergency hospital. After advanced diagnostics with a veterinary neurologist, including an MRI and CSF analysis, she was diagnosed with suspected Necrotizing Meningoencephalitis (NME)—a devastating autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to attack the brain.
Her MRI showed severe inflammation throughout her brain, along with areas of irreversible damage. While we’re still waiting on her final CSF results, her neurologist believes NME is the most likely diagnosis.
There is no cure.
Without treatment, this disease is rapidly fatal. With aggressive lifelong treatment—including seizure medications, immunosuppressive therapy, chemotherapy infusions, frequent neurologic rechecks, and ongoing bloodwork—some dogs can have meaningful time, but the prognosis remains guarded. Depending on how she responds, we may have anywhere from days to, hopefully, one to two years with her.
We’re doing everything we can to give Aurelia the best chance possible.
The emotional toll has been overwhelming, and the financial burden has grown quickly. We’ve started a GoFundMe to help cover the cost of her emergency hospitalization, MRI, neurologist care, hospitalization for immunosuppressive treatment, and the ongoing medical care she’ll need.
